Occoquan, Va. — In Occoquan on Saturday, it was raining rubber ducks.

The Prince William Trails and Streams Coalition held its annual fundraiser, awarding the $500 top prize to Janet Gunn of Nokesville for having the speediest duck.

The Duck Splash is simple: drop hundreds of ducks from the Ox Road (Va. 123) bridge into the Occoquan River, let them float upstream –– driven by wind ––toward the center of town, and the first 10 sponsored ducks to cross the finish line wins.

Anyone can sponsor a duck for $5, and usually those who do wait along the river shore in anticipation to see who wins.

A PWTSC volunteer said the group was not able to get all of the ducks sponsored this year, but added the fundraiser is one of the largest they do all year long.
