Woodbridge, Va. –– Drivers merging onto Interstate 95 in Woodbridge will have a longer acceleration lane beginning tonight.

The project to extend the acceleration lane on the southbound entrance to the highway at mile post 160, at Gordon Boulevard between Woodbridge and Occoquan, is expected to wrap up tonight. The new quarter-mile acceleration lane will allow traffic to enter the highway easier and more safely, said Virginia Department of Transportation spokesman Steve Titunik.

Crews worked overnight to make sure the milling and pavement processes were completed prior to opening the new lane.

Tonight as crews open the lane, some minor traffic congestion can be expected. The High Occupancy Vehicle lanes will be open to help alleviate some of those potential delays, said Titunik.
