Stafford County, Va. –– Think of it as a bazaar for those on the front lines fighting terrorism.

The Force Protection Equipment Demonstration is coming next week to the Stafford Regional Airport and will feature more than 3,000 items used in counter terrorism, exhibited by nearly 600 vendors.

A bi-annual event, this is the eighth FPED, and it’s the third time it’s been held at Stafford Regional Airport.

“When we last held FPED here in 2009, it was estimated the event brought in $5.9 million for the local economy, in meals, hotels and other tourism expenses. So you can see why we want to hold this event here again this year,” said Stafford Regional Airport Director Ed Wallis.

The event will be held Tuesday May 17 through Thursday May 19.

There is no admission fee to attend FPED, but attendees are required to register online before coming to the event.

The event began following the bombing of the Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia in 1996, and has always been held in Northern Virginia.
