Marine History Earns Locals Awards

Two Woodbridge residents were recently honored by the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation for their contributions to Marines.

Lauren Armstrong and Lt. Col. Seth Folsom were presented with awards on April 16 at the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation’s Annual Awards Ceremony.

Armstrong’s article “USMC in Black & White: The Story of the Montford Point Marines” earned her the 2011 Colonel Robert D. Heinl Jr. Award.  Folsom was presented with the 2011 General Wallace M. Greene Jr. Award for this book “In the Gray Area: A Marine Advisor Team at War”.

The ceremony was held at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Va. 18 individuals and organizations were honored with awards recognizing their contributions to advancing and preserving Marine Corps History by Foundation President & CEO Lt. Gen. Ron Christmas, USMC, (Ret).

Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. James F. Amos keynoted the event while Mr. Fred Smith, Chairman, President and CEO of FedEx Corporation, a Marine, spoke and was among the  honorees.
