Mount Vernon, Va. –– A man was killed Saturday night in the Mount Vernon area while crossing U.S. 1.
The victim was struck by a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee at 9:52 p.m. in the area of Jana Lee Avenue.
The yet-to-be-identified victim was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
The driver of the Grand Cherokee, a 58-year-old man from Maryland, stayed on the scene, police said.
Speed, alcohol does not appear to be factors in the crash. Police also added the victim was not using a crosswalk when he was struck.
