Schools superintendent search extended

Stafford County school officials will extend the search for their next superintendent through September.

At Tuesday’s school board meeting, officials announced they will continue the search for the next controller through Sept. 30.

School officials plan to announce their decision in October, according to Stafford County schools spokeswoman Valerie Cottongim.

Applications for the new position were taken through June 1.

School officials parted ways with their superintendent in 2006, and the schools have been under the direction of a interim superintendent ever since.

The Stafford County School Board has once again called a special session, this time slated for Friday at the county’s school administrative offices.

The meeting will take place at 8 a.m. in the Alvin York Brandy Administrative Complex, at 31 Stafford Avenue in Stafford, said Stafford County schools spokeswoman Valerie Cottongim.

There’s no word yet if the board will use this opportunity to announce the school system’s new superintendent.

The Board in recent months has been searching for a new superintendent to replace the interim superintendent put in place in 2006.

During that same year, Stafford’s school board voted to terminate their contract with then county schools superintendent Jean S. Murray.
