Woodbridge, Va. — The possibility of a Metro station and solutions for traffic congestion in Prince William County was the focus of a Metrorail to Prince William County meeting Monday night, hosted by Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-11, Fairfax, Prince William).

Woodbridge, Va. — For the first time in its 25-year history, the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission carried more than 15,000 passengers on a single day. The all-time record set on Sept. 13 breaks the previous high ridership level of 14,897 passengers on June 7.

PRTC’s OmniRide and OmniLink buses on Sept. 13 carried 15,133 passengers, and officials say ridership normally rises in September which marks the end of the summer vacation season and the return of many back to work.

Woodbridge, Va. — Local leaders will meet in Woodbridge on Monday night to discuss bringing Metro to eastern Prince William County.

Extending Metro’s Blue line to Potomac Mills has for at least the past two election cycles has been a campaign talking point for area democrats, as it was last week during a candidates forum in Lake Ridge.

North Stafford, Va. — Officials are taking one step closer to building High Occupancy Toll lanes on Interstate 95.

The proposed lanes would convert the HOV lanes between Dumfries and Edsall Road in Alexandria to toll lanes, requiring drivers with fewer than three occupants inside their cars to pay to use the lanes 24 hours per day.

The washed out portion of track was in Franconia and halted service on the line Thursday, forcing VRE to find buses to take riders to stations further down the line.

CSX has been working around the clock since Thursday night on several areas of track that had been damaged by flooding. All tracks are now open; however, several temporary speed restrictions along the route are in effect. Similar to after working on the railroad as part of preventative maintenance, these slow orders will be in place until the track settles. This may take several days. Even so, we expect any delays that we experience to be minimal.

As a result, VRE has made the decision not to operate service on Friday, September 9. With more rain expected overnight, we prefer to give the railroads the time they need to ensure that the tracks are fully operational. In addition, because the track issues happened during service, several of our train sets are currently being housed in our mid-day storage yard in DC, making the logistics even more complicated.
