WOODBRIDGE, Va. — OmniLink buses in Woodbridge will now serve the Virginia SkillSource Center on Minnieiville Road, making it easier for job seekers to find employment.

LAKE RIDGE, Va. — It was a rough commute for those headed south to the Potomac Communities on Monday.

At 4:38 p.m., a crash on the Interstate 395’s High Occupancy Vehicle Lanes at Shirlington caused the closure of the express lanes. Drivers were forced off of the two-lane facility while transit buses were permitted to continue to use the lanes, according to PotomacLocal.com Slug Tales writer Laura Cirillo.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Gas prices have fallen in recent weeks, but lower income families say they don’t feel the decrease.

The average price for a gallon of gas in the Potomac Communities is $3.57, according to AAA Mid-Atlantic’s Fuel Price Finder. The price of fuel on the east coast has fallen about 30 cents in the last month, but on its risen on the west coast about 11 cents, the price per gallon now hovering around $4.16.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — New routing for the Woodbridge / Lake Ridge OmniLink local bus service will take effect on June 4, helping area residents to more easily reach destinations including the SkillSource Center, which is a partner of the Virginia Employment Commission. The new routing along Minnieville, Caton Hill and Telegraph roads also will ease access for those who need to reach the Woodbridge Department of Motor Vehicles, Strayer University, an area dialysis center and shopping destinations including Target.

The Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission, PRTC, updates its schedules twice annually – in the spring and fall – to reflect current running times and make other changes such as updating routing and relocating bus stops as necessary. This year’s Spring Service Change is scheduled for June 4.

DALE CITY, Va. — Police in Virginia and Maryland cracked down on HOV violators Tuesday, stopping 449 drivers who police say violated the rules of the road.

High Occupancy Vehicle lanes like the ones on Interstate 95 and 395 between Dumfries and the Pentagon offer a faster ride for vehicles with three or more occupants. Since the 1970s, the lanes have been successful in spurring carpooling and slugging — a unique form of ridesharing where lines of commuters all heading to the same destination form in parking lots like Potomac Mills mall in Woodbridge or the Garrisonville Road commuter lot in North Stafford, where they wait for a driver who’s also headed in their direction to pick them up and give them a free ride to work via I-95’s HOV lanes.

UPDATE
Those involved in the crash suffered injuries that did not appear to be life threatening, said Virginia State Police Sgt. Les Tyler. The crash remains under investigation and more details are expected later.

We’ll bring you the details when we get them.
