PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — The Virginia Department of Transportation is building new commuter lots as part of the Interstate 66 toll lanes project.

The first new lot is being built near the intersections of I-66 and Route 15 in Gainesville, will have 200 available spaces and is scheduled to open in early 2019.


TYSONS – (Press Release) Before drivers hit the road this Thanksgiving, the Express Lanes team recommends planning ahead to avoid traffic and delays.

Traffic on I-95 is expected to surge on Tuesday, November 20 and Wednesday, November 21. If last year is any indication, drivers could save as much as one hour in travel time by taking the 95 Express Lanes next week.


FAIRFAX  – (Press Release) Rolling lane closures are planned to occur in both directions on I-66 between Route 29 in Gainesville and Sudley Road (Route 234 Business) during daytime hours tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 7 and Thursday, Nov. 8. Crews will be refreshing lane stripes and pavement markings that were installed as part of lane shifts needed for the I-66 Outside the Beltway project.

Lane closures will take place between 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Closures will begin in the morning on westbound I-66 and will switch in the afternoon to eastbound I-66.


STAFFORD — Commuters in Fredericksburg and Stafford may now tap an app to get to Tysons Corner.

Sameride, an independent company launched in 2016, offers free carpooling to commuters looking or offering a ride to the office. Similar to ridesharing services Uber and Lyft, Sameride utilizes an app that allows its customers to connect with each other not just in their own neighborhood but along the routes they drive as well. Users of the app have referred to it as “an Uber for slugging.”


NOKESVILLE – (Press Release) Hazelwood Drive between Carriage Ford Road and Fleetwood Drive will be closed to through traffic (weather permitting) from 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1 to replace several stormwater pipes, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Residents and businesses within the closure area, emergency vehicles and school buses will have access to the closed portion of Hazelwood Drive; however, they will not be able to go beyond the points of pipe replacement in either direction (see the attached map for the locations of the four pipes and the days crews are scheduled to work on them).

A juggling act — managing a regional board and dealing with revenue losses


WOODBRIDGE– Prince William County is trying to become a safer, more accessible place for all its residents by adding sidewalks and bicycle trails.

On Tuesday, “The Prince William Board of County Supervisors voted to authorize the submission of the grant applications for the Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Program,” Paolo Belita, regional transportation planner for Prince William County, states in an email.


DUMFRIES — Residents got their first look at a wider Route 1 in Dumfries.

The Virginia Department of Transportation held a public hearing on a $130 million project to widen and realign Route 1 between Brady’s Hill Drive and Route 234 through Virginia’s oldest, continuously chartered town.
