They’re not wasting any time. Work to bring down the Truslow Road bridge over Interstate 95 will begin this week.

Demolition of the two-lane bridge will make way for an extension E-ZPass Express toll lanes that will be extended down the median of the highway to southern Stafford County, from Garrisonville Road in the northern end of the county.


Can you imagine using the shoulder lane on Interstate 95 to get where you’re going in Northern Virginia?

State transportation officials can. In fact, in a process they call “hardening the shoulders,” they’re proposing turning the emergency pull-off area on both the north and southbound sides of the highway into travel lanes.

Press release | A Bridge beam installation for the new Poplar Tree Road bridge over Route 28 will require the closure of Route 28 between Braddock Road and Westfields Boulevard during the overnight hours Monday, Jan. 27, through Thursday, Jan. 30.

Closures are planned for Route 28 North the first two nights, followed by Route 28 South the next two nights. Closures are needed to safely install bridge beams over the roadway and ramps.


Press release | The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has opened dual left-turn lanes from the Blue & Gray Parkway to Route 2 (Dixon Street) in the City of Fredericksburg ahead of the Chatham Bridge rehabilitation project. The bridge crosses the Rappahannock River and connects Stafford County with Fredericksburg via Route 3 (William Street).


Prince William police press release | On January 15 at 5:58 PM, investigators from the Crash Investigation Unit responded to the area of Jefferson Davis Hwy and Quantico Gateway Dr in Triangle (22172) to investigate a crash involving a pedestrian.

The investigation revealed that the driver of a 2010 Explorer Sport-Trac was traveling northbound on Jefferson Davis Hwy, just past the intersection with Quantico Gateway Dr, when the vehicle struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian, identified as a 23-year-old man, was walking within the roadway on Jefferson Davis Hwy and not the designated sidewalk available.


Following news of the Governor Ralph Northam’s plans to invest nearly $4 billion to passenger rail, and to hike the gas tax, transportation officials are planning another round of meetings on Interstate 95.

They estimate it will cost $12.5 billion to add a new lane in each direction of the interstate, between Thornburg and the Occoquan River. When it is done, they said, it’ll already be congested.


Updated 11:30 a.m Jan. 14 | In the post below, we told you we would follow up with Stafford County officials on a request from the Board of Supervisors to the Commonwealth Transportation Board in Richmond, or a request to add a temporary signal light at Route 1 and Truslow Road.

Statement from the county | At this time, we have not heard any response from the Secretary of Transportation, to which we sent the letter.


Prince William County’s newest high school will won’t be located on the street residents had thought it would be.

The Prince William Board of County Supervisors voted to change the address of the soon-to-be-built high school near Gainesville.


Press release | Motorists can expect brief delays tomorrow on the Route 17 southbound on-ramp to I-95 southbound at Exit 133 (Falmouth) in Stafford County due to mobile pothole repairs.

Beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, motorists can expect brief, intermittent traffic stops of 5-10 minutes at the ramp. All repair work will be completed by noon.
