The Nationals came into the game riding a streak of 20 innings without allowing a run; that streak came to an end only just three batters into the game. After a leadoff double by the ‘Cats shortstop Andrelton Simmons, Phil Gosselin hammered an 0-1 pitch over the left field wall that put Lynchburg ahead 2-0.

Nationals starting pitcher Danny Rosenbaum settled down immediately and retired 13 of his next 14 hitters.

Potomac has now won 11 of their past 15 at Pfitzner Stadium and reached the .500 mark in home games at 22-22.

The matinee affair was eerily similar to Monday night’s ballgame. Potomac’s starter Adam Olbrychowski (3-5) worked out of early trouble and out-dueled his counterpart, Lynchburg righthander David Hale(1-4). The Nationals got a big hit in the early innings, relied on a trio of bullpen arms to shut down the Hillcats and prevent them from getting a single hit in 13 tries with runners in scoring position.

Selik overpowered the Hillcats over six innings, allowing just four hits and striking out four with no walks. He allowed baserunners in five of his six innings, but induced two double plays and allowed just one runner to reach second base.

The Nats (44-49, 15-9) got the only run they needed in the first inning. After Soriano doubled to open the frame, Jeff Kobernus sacrificed him to third. Destin Hood then hit a sacrifice fly to center field that put Potomac in front 1-0.
