WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A taxicab driver was carjacked in Woodbridge early Monday.
Police were called to Prince William Parkway and York Drive at 2:45 a.m., where the driver told officers he was stopped at a traffic light when his fare began to assault him and then ordered him out of the cab. The driver got out, the fare hopped into the front seat and then drove away, according to police documents.
LORTON, Va. – Five high school artists from Prince William and Fairfax won awards Saturday in Congressman Gerry Connolly’s annual 11th District Congressional Art Competition. The artwork of the first prize winner – Hope Martin of Battlefield High School in Haymarket – will hang in the U.S. Capitol for the next year where it will be seen by hundreds of thousands.
This year’s competition featured the largest number of submissions to date. Students who participated in the competition were recognized Saturday at a ceremony hosted by Congressman Connolly at the Lorton Workhouse Arts Center. More than 250 family members, students, and teachers joined Connolly at the reception to view the art work and congratulate the winners and honorable mention recipients. Each winner received a scholarship award.

All student art entries will remain on display at the Lorton Workhouse, Gallery W-16, 9601 Ox Road, (Route 123) in Lorton through April 29.
LORTON, Va. — The remains of two men from Prince William County who went missing in 2010 turned up in Lorton.
Fairfax County police today confirmed two sets of human remains found, one on July 12, 2010 and the other on March 15, 2011, were those of 32-year-old Manuel De Jesus Mireles-Garcia and 31-year-old Alberto Mireles-Garcia. Both men who were brothers went missing in Triangle in May 2010.

Lorton, Va. — The driver of a tractor trailer was killed early Monday in Lorton after his truck slammed into a work truck and caught on fire.
The crash happened at 2:13 a.m. about three quarters of a mile north of mile post 163 on Interstate 95. Virginia Department of Transportation crews were working in the area when the tractor trailer crashed into a VDOT truck, rupturing the tractor trailer’s fuel tank and sparking a blaze.
The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch from noon today until 8 p.m. Thursday. With temperatures forecast to reach the mid to upper 90s Wednesday afternoon, heat index values (what it feels like outside when the humidity is factored in with the heat) are expected between 100 and 110 degrees.
The hot weather will remain in place for the remainder of the week, with temperatures hovering in the mid 90s to 100 degrees, according to the weather service.
