Dumfries, Va. –– A house on Va. 234 near at the south entrance to Montclair went up in flames Monday night.
Dumfries-Triangle Volunteer Fire Department crews were called to 14208 Dumfries Road about 8 p.m. The house was fully involved in flames when crews arrived.
Dumfries, Va. — The Dumfries Town Council discussed reasons why the town’s requirement that “massage technicians” pay an annual $1,000 fee should be eliminated at their most recent meeting.
Kimberly Blanton, a Dumfries resident and massage therapist, originally brought the issue to Councilwoman Michele D. Jurgensen. Blanton spoke to the council during the work session saying that the $1,000 fee is too much for her to have to fork over after all that she has done to get licensed and certified. She told the council that, since this fee would have to be paid for each massage therapist every year, she would never be able to grow her business, at least not in Dumfries.

Triangle, Va. — The unexpected 5.8 magnitude earthquake in Mineral, Va., on Aug. 23 led to numerous evacuations across the Potomac Communities and beyond.
Dumfries, Va. –– A single red fire truck was called to investigate a fire at one of three radio towers on Mine Road in Dumfries about 2:20 p.m. Saturday.
No one was hurt and there was no serious damage at the tower, though the fire crew said they could see and smell smoke once they arrived on the scene.

Dumfries, Va. — The historic Weems-Botts Museum in Dumfries has volunteer opportunities for anyone who wants to help at the museum or with events.
The Boys and Girls Club in Dumfries this fall will hold a before and after school childcare program for ages 6 to 14-years-old. An annual membership to the club is $30, and with more participants the club plans to add new programs.
“As enrollment grows they plan to offer additional programming including a general after school program, open gym nights for ‘tweens’ and various mentoring programs with community partners,” said Greater Prince William Girls and Boys Clubs spokeswoman April Chervenka.

Dumfries, Va. — On Saturday, Dumfries held its second-annual Multicultural Festival.
It was the largest multicultural fest for the town yet, as more than 300 people came to the town’s Merchant Park outside the Weems-Botts Museum to and were greeted by food from different regions of the world, crafts and live music.
Dumfries, Va. –– Daniel Taber, chief of the Dumfries police department, was voted in as the interim town manager during the town council meeting Aug. 2. The current town manager, Kim Alexander, is leaving to become the town manager for Culpeper.
Robert Forker, who is the police department’s administrative manager and second-in-command, will become interim police chief of Dumfries.
Dumfries, Va. — The parchment paper background and tiny script is being replaced with an updated, sleeker look. The town of Dumfries has a new website.
