Ramirez will take a new job in Richmond and was about to complete the first year into her third term on the eight- member Board.

Ramirez’s resignation comes after a high-profile change-up on the County School Board that led to last night’s election of Lillie Jessie who will represent Prince William’s Occoquan District and permanently replace Grant Lattin, who stepped down earlier this spring.


WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Democrat Lillie Jessie is heading to the Prince William County School Board.

She beat out appointed incumbent Michael Wooten with 43 to 31 percent of the vote. Lori Bauckman-Moore placed third in a sea of four candidates.


STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — An elected official who reportedly moved out of her district has resigned.

Doreen Phillips held the Hartwood District seat on the Stafford County School Board and resigned today after it came to light she no longer lived in the county, but instead has a Fredericksburg address. Virginia law states elected officials must live in the district they represent.


Playing two division games in less than 24 hours, Northern Virginia Community College Ice Hockey (NOVA) had its work cut out. After last week’s devastating loss to Radford University, NOVA had spent the last week retooling its game plan and it clearly showed.

On Friday night, NOVA celebrated its fifth anniversary with a celebration puck drop with NOVA Counselors Mike Donnelly and Trevor Blair who helped start the team five years ago.


Playing against Blue Ridge Hockey Conference (BRHC) powerhouse Radford University at the Prince William Ice Center in Dale City, it was apparent early that the game was not going to go NOVA’s way. NOVA played the first 10 minutes of the game even before Radford’s Chris Merrick scored with a blast from the point.

Eight minutes later, NOVA was on a power play but let up a fluke goal due to a bouncing puck to Radford’s Antiono Conde, and with 10 seconds remaining in the period Radford come down on NOVA on a 3 on 1 before backdooring NOVA’s goalie Daniel Titus to go up 3 to zero to end the first.

LAKE RIDGE, Va. — In a room of just over 50 voters who came to hear School Board candidates debate, by a show of hands only five of them were undecided.


WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Tuesday, Sept. 17 was the first day of the Courage F.U.N. Project at Marumsco Hills Elementary School. This pilot program is a collaboration between Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center, Prince William Courage, Sodexho, and Prince William County Schools as way to combat the childhood obesity epidemic, specifically in Prince William County.

Forty 4th and 5th graders participated in the event and received Sentara water bottles, Courage Pride t-shirts and their Courage F.U.N. Project workbooks. Sue Sweet, a registered dietician at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center, provided a lesson on the importance of eating a healthy breakfast.


MANASSAS, Va. — The Virginia Department of Transportation’s Office of Civil Rights will host the 8th Annual Transportation Career for high school students on Oct. 4 at the Prince William Fairgrounds in Manassas from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. “Transportation: Your Ride to the Future!” is the theme.

The career fair exposes high school students to the rewarding and diverse careers in the transportation industry, including engineering, construction, architecture, environmental and technology.
