When the issue of School Division energy conservation came up at a recent Prince William County School Board meeting, the ensuing discussion caught some in the audience by surprise. To be honest, I was surprised too. After all, what could make more sense than cutting unnecessary energy spending to redirect money to student education?


WOODBRIDGE, Va. — E.J. Levenberry is going to San Antonio to play football for the U.S. Army.

The proud and humble senior linebacker at C.D. Hylton High School in Woodbridge was accepted to the Army’s All-American Bowl at a ceremony Thursday afternoon. The bowl is dubbed a premiere sporting event where 90 of the nations top high school football athletes have been invited to compete against each other Jan. 5 in front of a national TV audience on NBC.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Elementary and high school students in Prince William County took a step toward “bridging the gap” in technology access through an innovative program that began locally.


PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — The window to apply to be considered as the next Woodbridge representative on the Prince William County School Board is closing.

Interested applicants have until 4:30 p.m. Dec. 14 to file the correct paperwork to be considered for appointment to the eight-member Board that governs the county’s public school system. Completed applications must be emailed or delivered to the Prince William County Public Schools Headquarters at Independent Hill.

The just-completed presidential campaign renewed interest in questions about revenue and expenditures; how much our nation wants versus what we can afford. Now, our Prince William County School Board and administration face similar questions in preparing the budget for 2013-14 and beyond. Fortunately, we share the desire to continue Providing A World-Class Education for all students. That does not necessarily require extra spending. Still, public support is needed; and that demands understanding of the complex issues and facts involved.
