WOODBRIDGE — When it comes to the cost of removing children from trailer classrooms, $143 million may be too much to swallow.

The joint county/schools capital process team voted Oct. 29 to move forward with a $143.2 million plan to build new classroom space that would lead to the removal of more than 100 portable trailer classrooms stationed at Prince William County Public Schools.

Widewater Elementary is hosting their first Veterans Day flag ceremony on the front lawn at 9:30 a.m. Past and present service members will dress in uniform. Students and families are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue in show of support. The Widewater PTO is selling flags to wave during the ceremony for $1.00 each. WASHINGTON — Sen. Tim Kaine is pushing for federal protection for school drinking water on top of Virginia’s state-mandated protections for students.

Kaine joined 34 others in calling the Department of Education and the Environmental Protection Agency to protect students from lead in drinking water.

STAFFORD — (Press Release) Stafford County Public Schools is pleased to announce that Dr. Janis Streich, Executive Director of Learning and Organizational Development of Stafford County Public Schools, received the inaugural Virginia Society for Technology in Education (VSTE) Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) Council Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Award for her career leading innovation in instruction and technology in Virginia. Dr. Streich’s work around the Instructional Technology Resource Teacher model has contributed to innovation through the state.

Dr. Streich, a leader in Virginia educational technology for over 20 years, is a former elementary classroom teacher and served as the assistive technology coordinator in Stafford County Public Schools during the early 2000s.

WOODBRIDGE — The numbers used to project how many children will fill Prince William County classroom seats in the coming years are inaccurate.


MANASSAS — On Thursday, in front of a group of business leaders and government officials, Manassas Public Schools’ new superintendent put a neighboring jurisdiction on notice.

“We’re going to compete with every school in Prince William County,” said city schools superintendent Kevin D. Newman.


STAFFORD — Residents are speaking out after, a transgender student at Stafford Middle School was barred from using both boys and girls locker rooms during a lockdown drill in which a child was forced to sit in the bleachers alone.

It happened last week during a drill, which is common within Stafford County Public Schools. Two drills have taken place already this school year.


STAFFORD — It was at the end of the school day, and teachers and staff across Stafford County had to race to make sure all students were safe during a tornado warning.

The weather event brought an unusual end to the school day on Monday, Sept. 17. It which caused significant delays in getting elementary school students home on time.
