MANASSAS — The Virginia Music Educators Association (VMEA) has recognized Osbourn High School as a Blue Ribbon School for the 2018-2019 school year.
The award is the highest honor given to school music programs in the state and recognizes school performing arts programs that achieve excellence in Band, Orchestra, and Choral Performance.

STAFFORD — The Stafford County School Board will consider a controversial amendment to the school division’s non-discrimination policy later this summer.
School officials aim to add additional protections for transgender students. The School Board is reviewing a new non-discrimination policy that includes protection from discrimination against “race, color, national origin, political affiliation, religion, sex, pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, disability, age, or genetic information.”
STAFFORD – The Graphic Imaging and Printing program at North Stafford High School (NSHS) is the Region Three winner of 2019 Creating Excellence Program Award.
This award recognizes programs and partnerships that promote excellence in career and technical education.
With many years of experience as a teacher for Fairfax County Public Schools, Lisa Zargarpur wants the focus to be on student success and better funding in Prince William County.
She lives outside Manassas and is running for Prince William County School Board for the Coles District.
RICHMOND — The State Board for Community Colleges decided to maintain the current in-state tuition and mandatory fees for the 2019-2020 academic year.
The Board’s decision means tuition will remain at today’s rate of $154 per credit hour and keeps community college tuition and mandatory fees at approximately one-third of the comparable costs of attending Virginia’s public four-year universities.
WOODBRIDGE — On May 16, students from C.D. Hylton High School’s automotive class completed the final touches of a rebuild project.
The project, which they’ve been working on since January, was to rebuild a 2002 Jeep.
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — The following graduation dates, times, and locations have been announced in Prince William County Public Schools.
This includes high school, summer school, practical nursing program, and adult education students.
STAFFORD — Senator Tim Kaine (D) on Friday participated in a roundtable discussion with educators in Stafford County.
Chief among the concerns of educators who gathered Friday at Stafford Middle School on Spartan Drive was how to attract and retain teachers in rural areas. Kaine listened to teachers and administrators in the hopes of finding ideas of how to solve the county’s woes.
