The Stafford County School Board is considering revisions to their student transfer policy that will increase the cut-off for elementary schools from 80 percent to 90 percent capacity.
Already, middle schools and high schools are designated closed and won’t accept new transfer students when they reach 90% capacity. Some exceptions are made under extenuating circumstances.

Prince William County Public Schools officials are monitoring the coronavirus outbreak.
“Prince William County Schools staff are closely monitoring the situation and a collaborative working group is developing specific plans in the event any changes to school operations are required. It’s the start of budget season, and Stafford County Schools is talking about its needs.
Division Superintendent Dr. Scott Kizner presented his annual budget plan to the School Board. It calls for a $57 million increase in spending over the previous year. This would be used to pay for new counselors, English and foreign language teachers at middle schools, as well as school maintenance.

Members of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women/Prince William County Chapter (NCBW/PWCC) has partnered with John D. Jenkins Elementary School, and Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) to launch an initiative designed to help teach students financial literacy.
High school students are losing valuable time during their education because they’re tired, according to Benjamin Kim, a student representative on the Prince William County School Board.
Kim pushed for a later start time for high schoolers at the January 22 county School Board meeting. He cited both California and neighboring Fairfax County which both mandate schools begin classes after 8 a.m., he said.
For the first time in its school’s history, Osbourn High School has created an indoor drumline. A group of 16 students in the Manassas high school, from grades 7 to 12, all bonded this year through a passion for percussion.
Drumline students have been spending most weekday evenings practicing, spending hours rehearsing to perfect a performance that will last just five minutes. Some of their weekends have been sacrificed to fundraise to cover the cost of purchasing equipment, drum sticks, mallets, props, and purchase uniforms, said band mom and spokeswoman Erica Washington.
