Catholic high schools in the Diocese of Arlington are capping off an unprecedented year with in-person graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2021. Each graduate can invite four guests to join in the celebratory occasion.
The ceremonies, to be held on each respective school’s football field, will take place at the end of May and in early June. High schools in the Diocese safely re-opened at the beginning of the 2020-21 academic year for hybrid (in-person and virtual) learning, as all 41 brick-and-mortar schools reopened for fully in-person or hybrid instruction. This fall, the four high schools plan to resume full-time in-person instruction with ongoing COVID-19 mitigation safety protocols in place.
The quick shift to virtual learning in 2020 created many new challenges for teachers across the country, but PWCS educators continue to rise to the top.

“The Babylon garden is an important hands-on STEM learning tool that will benefit our students in many ways,” said Stafford County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Scott Kizner. “The fact that we are saving 2005 square feet of farmland in a booming county is also of great benefit to our community.”
The garden will grow herbs, microgreens, and leafy greens. Students in the culinary arts program will use the produce in their menus, business students will develop a plan for using future crops, IT students will study how the app works and the AI functions of the garden, and IB Environmental students will study the impact of the garden on reducing environmental concerns that are associated with traditional farming.

As another pandemic-affected school year comes to an end, administrators are hoping expanded summer school options with more in-person instruction than the spring semester can help to make up what’s been lost for some students in the past year.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Steve Walts presented the 2021-22 Learning Plan to the School Board on Wednesday, May 5.
The Prince William County School Board is considering the school system’s first equity statement, which, if approved, would serve as a guide for all schools in the county.
