QUANTICO — A IMAX movie theatre was included as part of the first phase of a $100 million expansion of the National Museum of the Marine Corps.

The movie they show — “We, The Marines” — is narrated by actor Gene Hackman, of Superman fame. If you haven’t been to the new theatre to see the film, or if you want to see it again, tickets are discounted half off this weekend.


QUANTICO — Lacking funds, officials at Quantico Marine Corps Base are trying to keep a promise it made nearly 80 years ago.

Cedar Run Cemetery sits on 12 acres of land and can be found on the west side of Fleetwood Drive, across from the base in Prince William County.


QUANTICO — The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation’s tenth Summer Concert Series kicks off June 27 at 7 p.m. with a performance by the United States Navy Concert Band.

As the original ensemble of the Navy Band, the Navy Concert Band will perform an array of marches, patriotic selections, orchestral transcriptions, and a modern wind ensemble repertoire.


QUANTICO — One of the canine stars of Superpower Dogs, now showing daily at the National Museum of the Marine Corps, will greet Museum visitors on Saturday, June 22.

Ricochet, a surf and therapy dog who helps people with special needs and veterans with post-traumatic stress, will be on site for a day dedicated to service dogs and their support of those who serve.


QUANTICO — Marine Corps Base Road is renamed in honor of distinguished Marine and FBI agent.

Officials at Quantico Marine Corps Base renamed a street leading to its weapons training facility on the base. The formerly and simply named “27200 Road” has been renamed in honor of Colonel Walter R. Walsh, a former agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and served in the Marines from the start of the U.S. entry into World War II, most notable as a shooting instructor, until his retirement in the 1970s.


QUANTICO — (Press release) As it has done for nearly 40 years, the Potomac Region Veterans Council (PRVC), in partnership with Quantico National Cemetery and Marine Corps Base Quantico, will host the annual PRVC Memorial Day Ceremony at Quantico National Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 27, 2019.

Moderator for the event will be retired Air Force Colonel Richard L. Anderson, chairman of the Potomac Region Veterans Council and a former Delegate representing the 51st House District in the Virginia General Assembly.


QUANTICO – A temporary exhibit commemorating war dogs is opening May 18

“War Dogs: Never Above You, Never Below You, Always Beside You” will spotlight and honor the important role these four-legged warriors serve. This exhibit will be on display from through September of 2019 in the National Museum of the Marine Corps Combat Art Gallery.
