Chambers Band Together to Support Outer Beltway

MANASSAS, Va. – Support for an outer beltway in Prince William and Loudoun counties is growing thanks to a new partnership with major business organizations in region.

A total of 12 administrations today, including the Prince William and Loudoun chambers of commerce, joined to form the Bi-County Parkway Partnership. They say the planned 45-mile road that would link Interstate 95 in Dumfries with I-66 in Manassas via a transformed Va. 234, and then beyond to Dulles Airport and Va. 7 in Loudoun County, will better position the region to accommodate an estimated 300,000 new jobs that will come to the area as population continues to grow.

Heat, Unhealthy Air Dominate Weather Picture

Our heat streak continues today with 90-degree temperatures and poor air quality forecast for the region.

It’s a Code Orange air quality day for those living in Prince William County and in areas north, from Washington, D.C. to Philadelphia. The air outside is expected to be unhealthy for children and anyone with a breathing or heart condition.

Candland Crosses Prince William on Charity Walking Tour

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — Supervisor Peter Candland walked 33 miles across Prince William County to raise cash for charity, and to meet residents.

Before he began his walk from Woodbridge to Haymarket on Saturday, Candland consulted with an organization called “Rise Up Prince William” who helped him identify six area organizations to work with on this endeavor, raising cumulative $30,000 for the following organizations:

Future of Potomac Shores Rail Station Uncertain

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — The developers of a the 2,000-acre Potomac Shores project remain at an impasse with railway and state officials – there is still no plan to build a commuter rail station on the property.

The mixed-used neighborhood’s town center, which will be located on the Potomac River and feature a mix of condominiums, apartments, retail shops, office space, and a hotel, hinges on a future Virginia Railway Express Station. The hope is commuters traveling to and from Washington, D.C. would use the station. It would be built on the existing rail line that traverses the property, between VRE stations at Quantico and Rippon in Woodbridge.

Woodbridge Man Charged in 1 of 7 Fatal Holiday Weekend Wrecks

A Woodbridge man faces charges in a fatal crash on Virginia roads over the Memorial Day weekend – one of seven deadly crashes that occurred on state roads.

Thomas J. Smith, of Woodbridge, faces reckless driving charges in a crash that occurred early Saturday morning on Interstate 95 near Lorton. Rashid K. Humphreys, 30, of Yonkers, N.Y., was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car. He was taken to Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, Virginia State Police reported.
