WOODBRIDGE, Va. – On a beautiful summer evening, the Woodbridge Potomac Communities Civic Association (WPCCA) gathered at historic Rippon Lodge to present the 2nd Annual Woodbridge Beautification Awards, and announce the receipt of a $5,000 grant from Transurban-Flour.
DUMFRIES, Va. — Volunteers in Dumfries were recognized for their service as a special dinner Monday night.
A handful of area residents from Prince William and Stafford counties were recognized for their selfless service to the town in events like the annual Christmas parade, fall festival, and monthly senior luncheons. Thanks to Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Fairfax, Prince William, all of the volunteers had their names entered into the Congressional Record.
LAKE RIDGE, Va. — Community running group the Lake Ridge RidgeRunners has had a “nebulous existence” since the 1970s, according to their website, but in recent years has seen a surge in membership under the leadership of volunteer president and avid runner, Stephanie Dupal-Demartin.
In addition to weekly runs and walks, the club also hosts a popular “May Day 5K” race, and a yearly “Record Breaking Run and Walk” to encourage people to come out and try the club.

While it was later than its anticipated opening at the end of March, Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill told developers they had planned to open by July 1, said Roadside Development spokesman Jeff Edlestein.
WOODBRIDGE, Va. — The Hagerstown Suns may relocate to Fredericksburg, and that doesn’t bother the Potomac Nationals one bit.
Potomac Nationals owner Art Silber said his team pulls fans from Prince William and Fairfax counties, and the prospect of Fredericksburg having a team just 26 miles away from his will not be a problem, Frederickburg.com reports.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Steel beams from the ill-fated World Trade Center made the return trip to the Prince William County Government Center on Monday.
Two years after a special ceremony was held at the government enter in Woodbridge heralding the arrival of the beams, the steel was placed on the Sean T. Connaughton Plaza where they will be preserved with an epoxy sealant for use in a permanent memorial on the nearby grounds.
Summer has officially arrived and as more individuals begin enjoying and participating in outdoor activities, there is the likelihood they will encounter stormy weather.

GAINESVILLE, Va. – The Prince William Board of County Supervisors unanimously agreed to proceed forward with a lighting project at Catharpin Park in the Gainesville District. Funding for the lights will come from revenues the county earned from the sale of stream mitigation credits for a project at nearby James Long Park.
This project will result in lights for a third Little League field and lights for a second baseball field.

VLI in May held a reception honoring their Top 10 Under 40 honorees, at Kora Restaurant in Crystal City.
“The Virginia Leadership Institute is proud to honor young African-Americans in Northern Virginia who are raising the bar in their professions and in the community,” said Virginia Leadership Institute founder and CEO Krysta Jones. “Our honorees are entrepreneurs, elected officials, military veterans, executives and community leaders. Not too long ago some Blacks avoided moving to Virginia because of the long-held stereotypes associated with Virginia’s role as a slave state. These honorees prove that young African Americans are actively working to make the commonwealth a better place for all Virginians to live and work.”
