String of burglaries in Prince William, Manassas this week

This week there have been several residential burglaries in Prince William and Manassas.

In the afternoon on May 4, Prince William police responded to a call from a residence on Clematis Street in Manassas to investigate a burglary. Officers said that the homeowner told Prince William police that the burglary occurred between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. and there was no forced entry and the entry point was an unsecured window. A Prince William police report stated that a laptop, money, handgun and an iPhone were reported missing.

Manassas says ‘thank you’ to city business owners over breakfast

The City of Manassas partnered today with the Prince William Chamber of Commerce to recognize city business owners.

A special breakfast was held at the Center for the Arts at the Candy Factory in Downtown Manassas.

On the morning of May 5, Haymarket police officers responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle on Lea Berry Way in Haymarket.

According to Haymarket police, when officers made contact and searched the car, they saw what they suspected to be narcotics, and items used with narcotics.

Electrical fire in Manassas causes $15K in damages

Yesterday evening, Prince William fire and rescue crews responded to a call for a commercial fire on Sudley Road in Manassas.

According to Prince William fire and rescue, responders discovered the fire in an electrical room. They were able to put out the fire, and the fire did not extend to any other rooms.

Free flan, flowers for Mother’s Day

Pollo Campero, a Latin chicken restaurant chain, will be celebrating Mother’s Day this Sunday by giving mothers a free dessert and flowers.

Any mothers that stop by one of the Pollo Campero locations on Sunday will get a free flan dessert and a fresh flower, said a release.

Library Foundation gives libraries $14K for books, iPads

The Prince William Public Library Foundation, an area non-profit, has awarded the Prince William library system more then $14,000 to fund two new programs.

The first program, 1000 Books Before Kindergarten, is a national early literacy program. The program provides books and ways to incorporate reading into a family routine. With the Library Foundation’s full funding of the program, around 2,000 preschoolers will be able to participate within the first year, said a release.
