The City of Manassas, along with Prince William County, were the recipients of the Virginia Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War Commission’s Leadership Award for the area’s efforts in commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War during the past seven years.

The City of Manassas partnered with Prince William County, the Prince William County Historic Preservation Division and many area museums, parks, and historic sites to coordinate dozens of local events that brought history to life for thousands of residents and visitors from across the country. The Prince William County/Manassas Committee began meeting in 2007, and helped plan and promote the signature 2011 Sesquicentennial commemoration at multiple sites across the city and county.

A plan for a reimagined Dale City calls for neighborhoods that are friendly to pedestrians, bus riders, and drivers.

These new neighborhoods must have better crosswalks so people can easily cross Dale City’s main thoroughfare Dale Boulevard. And while there’s already commuter and local bus service along the corridor, a plan calls for even more transit service along Dale Boulevard.

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), the road will be closed in order to complete a $2.8 million project to replace the bridge over Broad Run.

Mehrdad Naderi, the area construction engineer, said that the road will be closed off for 100-feet on either side of the bridge area, but that drivers will be able to access other parts of the road.

We received clarification on the legislative priorities listed on the Prince William school board website from Associate Superintendent Keith Imon:

The School Board has not yet approved the School Division’s Legislative Priorities for next year. Instead, the Board simply agreed to send the items in your article and on the School Board’s June 3 agenda to the VSBA for their consideration to include them in the VSBA’s legislative agenda. This is the time of the year that the VSBA seeks input from all of Virginia’s local school boards. The PWC School Board will begin the work to finalize the School Division’s Legislative Priorities in September and typically adopts them around October. Of course, the items submitted to the VSBA for its consideration will be part of the School Division’s recommendation to the School Board as part of that process, but in all likelihood there will be other recommendations as well.
