DUMFRIES, Va. — Nicholas R. Esposito will serve as the new Dumfries Police Chief.
The former Alexandria police officer was hired April 1 and took command two days later after a search ongoing dating back to August. Esposito’s resume states he gained experience in all facets of police work while in the Northern Virginia including interviewing victims, witnesses, enforcing traffic law, arresting suspects, and testifying in court.

The City of Manassas Farmer’s Market is back for its 26th peak season. Running from April through early November, the market is open on both Thursdays and Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — Rehabilitation work is about to begin on a sewer system in the Oak Ridge Estates neighborhood in mid-Prince William County.
The work is scheduled to begin this week.

Malicious Wounding of a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] – On March 4 at 11:30PM, an officer responded to Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center located at 2300 Opitz Blvd in Woodbridge (22191) to transport the accused to an area facility for a mental health evaluation. While being placed in the backseat of a police cruiser, the accused became agitated and bit an officer in the hand. The accused was eventually secured without further incident. Serious injuries were reported to the officer’s hand. Following the investigation, the accused was charged and subsequently arrested on March 31.

Sexual Assault Investigation – On January 12, detectives from the Special Victim’s Unit responded to investigate a sexual assault that was reported to have occurred at a residence in Haymarket (20169) sometime in 2010. The investigation revealed that the victim, then a 10-year-old female juvenile, was inappropriately touched by the accused, identified as a family member. The victim recently disclosed the incident to a counselor who contacted police. Following the investigation, the accused was arrested on April 1 without incident.
