Body found near path in Marumsco Acre Lake Park

From Prince William police: 

Death Investigation – On July 13 at 6:47AM, officers responded to investigate a body that was located in the 14400 block of Melbourne Ave in Woodbridge (22191). A citizen called police after discovering the body while walking along a path in Marumsco Acre Lake Park. The body, an adult male, was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Manassas for an autopsy and further analysis to determine the cause of death. The victim’s identity will be release once next-of-kin has been notified. At this time, there is no public threat or need for concern. More information will be released when available. The investigation continues.

Drastic 2017 crime stat swings: Rapes increase while murder rate plunges

WOODBRIDGE — Some who have come in contact with Prince William police officers have become more brazen. Assaults on county police officers increased by 35 percent in 2017.

There were 148 recorded incidents of assaults on officers, up from 80 in 2016. Chief Barry Barnard said those statistics show just how dangerous policing profession can be.

‘The Virginia economy has truly started to perform again’

Last week, Governor Ralph Northam announced that Virginia finished the fiscal year with  $551.9 million more in revenue that we projected when writing this year’s budget.

First, the good news is that most of this surplus is due to increased tax revenue from payroll withholding taxes, not one-time revenue sources like capital gains or tax avoidance strategies related to the recent changes in federal tax laws.  The Virginia economy has truly started to perform again.

Favored Route 28 bypass route cuts through portion of Bull Run Regional Park

MANASSAS — Historical preservationists don’t like it. Transportation officials favor it.

It’s called “alternative 2B,” and it’s part of a plan to extend Godwin Drive from near Novant Health/UVA Health System Prince William Medical Center in Manassas east to Route 28. The planned four-lane, a four-mile extension would serve Route 28 bypass would run between Lomond neighborhood and homes in Manassas Park.

City leaders sign letter of intent to move P-Nats to Fredericksburg

FREDERICKSBURG — City leaders in Fredericksburg on Tuesday signed a letter of intent to move the Potomac Nationals from Woodbridge to Fredericksburg.

This comes after the announcement from the city and Potomac Nationals Owner, Art Silber agreed to a 30-year lease to move the team to Fredericksburg.

Good Morning Prince William – Volunteers needed for the Christmas in July event on Saturday, July 21st.  This event is sponsored by The Philadelphia Tavern, Sinistral Brewing and Volunteer Prince William to benefit The Un-Tim-A-Tree Holiday Gift program for needy kids.
