WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Rep. Suhas Subramanyam (D-Manassas, Prince William County) and Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar (R-Fla.) introduced bipartisan legislation to increase access to justice for survivors of child sexual abuse, assault, and trafficking. The Statutes of Limitations for Child Sexual Abuse Reform Act would incentivize states to eliminate civil and criminal statutes of limitations for child sexual abuse cases. The legislation authorizes $20 million in grants for states that implement these reforms and allow survivors to seek justice on their own terms and timeline.
Approximately 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 20 boys suffer child sexual abuse. Historically, nearly 90 percent of child victims never report their abuse to the authorities, and the majority of victims are unable to come forward and hold their abusers accountable due to expired claims. Many survivors don’t come forward until they are 50 years old or older, well beyond the expiration of the statute of limitations.
HAYMARKET, Va. — Waterfall Road (Route 601) between Mount Atlas Lane (Route 731) and Jackson Hollow Road (Route 680) will be closed to through traffic from 6:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, until 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, to replace the bridge over Catharpin Creek, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Those needing to reach properties along Waterfall Road during the 10-day closure will have access, but will not be able to go beyond the bridge work site in either direction.

Weir, 62, died on July 20, 2025, following a brief battle with metastatic colon cancer. He was first elected to the Prince William Board of County Supervisors in a special election in 2023 and won a full four-year term later that year. Known for his straightforward style and focus on transparency, he built a reputation as a responsive leader who personally followed up with residents on local concerns.
GAINESVILLE, Va. – Families at The Goddard School of Gainesville (Haymarket) collected 436 food items for the Haymarket Regional Food Pantry.
The donations came from families and staff at the preschool and will go to support individuals and families in Haymarket, Gainesville, and surrounding communities.

DUMFRIES, Va. – Police are investigating after a man was shot during an exchange of gunfire in Dumfries on Monday evening.
Prince William County police said officers were called at 5:33 p.m. to the area of Old Triangle Road and Kearsage Drive, where they found an adult male with a gunshot wound. His injuries are considered non-life-threatening.
OCCOQUAN, Va. – Occoquan Mayor Ernie Porta used his latest Occoquan Radio Podcast to recap recent community events, recognize local award winners, and preview the town’s biggest weekend of the year.
Porta thanked those who attended the Celebrate Occoquan fundraiser for the nonprofit Visit Occoquan, held last week at the Mill Street Draft Garden. The event featured live and silent auctions and drew strong support from the community.
