PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — (Press release) Manassas National Battlefield Park is preparing for a prescribed fire between March 26 and April 5, 2019.

These dates may be extended depending upon weather conditions. The planned fire will be in the Deep Cut area of the battlefield, encompassing approximately 40 acres of open fields and brush.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — Residents should not toss glass into their recycling bins as trash haulers in Prince William County will no longer accept it for single-stream recycling.

County solid waste division chief Tom Smith told leaders it’s costing the county more than it used to recycle the product, as it must be shipped to processing facilities in Pennsylvania and North Carolina, as one doesn’t exist in Virginia.


RICHMOND — Environmental and consumer groups applauded Gov. Ralph Northam after he signed legislation this week that aims to protect water quality by cleaning up more than 27 million cubic yards of coal ash from unlined ponds in the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

Northam signed into law SB 1355, sponsored by Sen. Frank Wagner, R-Virginia Beach, and HB 2786, sponsored by Del. Riley Ingram, R-Hopewell. The legislation seeks to clean up coal ash sites in the city of Chesapeake and in Prince William, Chesterfield, and Fluvanna counties.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — (Press release)  Today, the Prince William County Office of Tourism announced that it has received a $10,000 grant from the Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) “50 Years of Love” program marketing fund.


The National Park Service (NPS) wants to hear from you about its proposed plan to improve trail systems and expand trail use at Prince William Forest Park.


PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY  — (Press release)  Shooting Investigation — On March 20 at 10:13AM, officers responded to the 4000 block of Marjon Ct. in Dumfries for a shooting in progress. Officers arrived and secured the scene. Officers located one man and one woman, both adults, shot within the residence.

The condition of the two shot is not being disclosed at this time.
