PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY — (Press release) Bike to Work Day is coming up on May 17, and the event will give people the opportunity to ditch their cars for a day to celebrate biking as a clean, healthy and fun way to get around.

George Phillips, a county transportation planner who is helping coordinate Bike to Work Day in Prince William County, said the event is designed to get people thinking about alternative modes transportation. “Bike to Work is to get people to focus and look at the possibility of another way to get to work, to realize there are other options out there other than taking their cars.”

LAKE RIDGE — During a standing-room-only event Monday night, Democrats running for political office in Prince William County discussed the environment during a candidate forum sponsored by the Greater Prince William Climate Action Network.

Topics ranged from coal ash ponds outside a Dominion Power Plant near Dumfries, whether the candidates would accept donations from Dominion Power, and extending Metro to Prince William County.


WOODBRIDGE — An effort to hike taxes on data centers in Prince William County failed at a special meeting Wednesday night.

A 4-4 tie vote killed a proposal touted by Prince William County Board of Supervisors Chairman Corey Stewart At-large that would have increased taxes on the current seven data centers in the county, as well as future data centers to be built, from $1.25 to doubling it over five years to $2.50 per $100 of assessed value.

WOODBRIDGE — Prince William County leaders are aiming to hike taxes on data centers, hoping the new funds will help the county shed its bedroom community reputation and become a destination to live, work, and play.

Board of County Supervisors Chairman At-large Corey Stewart, a Republican who recently ran a failed U.S. Senate campaign against Democrat Tim Kaine, proposes raising the current tax rate on data centers from $1.25 to $2, netting an additional $9.6 million annually.
