Seniors at Prince William County high schools that were supposed to walk across the graduation stage this spring will have their chance after all.
The county School Board will announce during an emergency evening meeting on Wednesday, May 6, 2020, that all 12 high schools will hold an in-person graduation ceremony during the first full week of August. The division plans to allow each school to hold a graduation ceremony inside its football stadium.
There’s a new chief of human resources at overseeing two of the region’s largest hospitals — Novant Health / UVA Health System Prince William and Haymarket medical centers.

Every day, thousands of cars travel along Route 234 to get from one end of Prince William County to the other. Crossing the Occoquan River near Manassas, one can see the Lake Jackson Dam standing steady as it has for over 90 years.

The Prince William County Service Authority (SA) recently honored 10 area students for their water-related entries in the 2020 Prince William-Manassas Regional Science and Engineering Fair held last month at the Edward L. Kelly Leadership Center in Manassas.
Prince William Food Rescue has delivered 500,000 pounds of rescued food.
The initiative started in August 2019. The rescue distributes food that would have otherwise been thrown away and it has reached this benchmark in less than a year.
Five high school sophomores has started a 3-D printing business to help fight the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
The students, from Charles J. Colgan Sr. High School near Woodbridge, kicked their small 3D-printing business into high-gear, and a Woodbridge Senior High School teacher is working in his home basement to help in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus virus. The sophomore students are making 3D-printed masks for local first responders.
The Prince William Board of County Supervisors unanimously approved a request to add approximately 84 acres of land into an agricultural and forestal district during their board meeting on April 28.
Located near the Nokesville School, the first parcel, located at 13063 Hickerson Lane, is 80 acres. It will be used for fields, forestry, crops, and livestock. The second four-acre parcel is located at 13209 Farmview Road, known as the Madera Farm. It will be used as a “wooded lot to be forested,” according to county documents.
Hospitals in Prince William County and Manassas won’t be affected by a new round of cuts and furloughs announced by the UVA Health System.
The healthcare provider announced that it is taking actions to mitigate $85 million per month in losses it has experienced. Those losses come after a state-imposed lockdown and Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam’s ban on elective medical procedures in the wake of the coronavirus.
The Prince William Board of County Supervisors has accepted, budgeted, and appropriated $624,534 for emergency shelter services, telephone reassurance services, and food for the homeless in response to the novel coronavirus.
$324,534 came from state and federal grants, and $300,000 came from Affordable Housing Proffer funds.
Both the May General and Special Elections, as well as the June Primary elections, have been postponed by an executive order from Gov. Ralph Northam.
The original May 5 and June 9 elections will now be held on May 19 and June 23, respectively.
