Crews from 13 fire and rescue stations were called at 2 p.m. to the area of Adler Lane in Stafford County for a report of a brush fire.

They arrived to find three acres of burning brush, but over the course of the next four hours would have to battle a fire that extended up to 10 acres of land, said Stafford fire and rescue Battalion Chief Joseph Grainger.

With one out in the eighth inning, Michael Olt hit a ground ball under the glove of Potomac third baseman Stephen King. Jared Hoying then guided a ball through the right side of the infield to put two men aboard. After Jared Prince popped out for the inning’s second out, Pelicans catcher Zach Zaneski hit a laser into rightfield that broke the scoreless tie and would be all the offense Myrtle needed. A bases loaded walk added a second and final run.

Joseph Ortiz (2-1), who came on in relief of Erlin, retired Potomac in order in the eight and worked around a leadoff Jose Lozada single to earn the victory. Adam Olbrychowski (1-1) pitched the eighth for Potomac and was the hard-luck loser.

The 63-year-old was inside her home in the 2000 block of Horizon Court, in the Misty Ridge apartment complex, when she heard her sliding glass door open at 10:05 p.m., and then saw a man come into her home, say police.

The man pulled out a handgun and demanded money, but the woman fought back and struck the man on the head with the gun, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.

Travelers headed to New York City via the Potomac Communities have even more advanced warning on which road to take after a new highway sign was erected in Lorton.

Alex Caldera was unable to hold the lead for the Nats; he yielded three runs on a pair of home runs in the second inning and two more Salem runs in the third before he recorded an out. Caldera (0-1, 16.70) was lifted from the game and got the loss.

Ryan Pressly, the Sox starter was just as erratic. He lasted only 2.2 innings but the Sox offense got him off the hook. He gave way to Anatanaer Batista, who was utterly dominant and retired all ten Nationals hitters he faced. Batista got the win to improve his record to 2-0.

Not everyone is happy about new political districts in Stafford County, the man who lead Woodbridge Senior High School’s crew team association now has plead guilty to embezzling the organization’s money, and what would make U.S. 1 in south Fairfax a better place to live, work and play?

The one male passenger inside the truck collided with a tree, became trapped inside, and then the truck caught fire.
