Six officers will be remembered, including 2nd Lt. Frank Stecco who was killed in the waters of the Pohick Bay in 2008 during a training exercise, and Detective Vicky Armel and Master Police Officer Michael Garbarino who were both killed when a gunman opened fire on a police station in the county’s Sully District in 2006.

The memorial service will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Rose Garden at the Massey Building at 4100 Chain Bridge Road in Fairfax.

His single to left field scored the speedy Perez all the way from first to cap a seesaw ballgame and send the Potomac Nationals (14-21) to a 5-4 win. With a win in their final at-bat for the second straight day, the P-Nats secured their second series win of 2011 in dramatic fashion.

Remarkably, Perez was not the only number-nine hitter who went four-for-four on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Woodbridge. His Wilmington counterpart Deivy Batista also had four knocks in as many trips to the plate. Destin Hood continued his hot streak and he, too, was four-for-four.

Of the 5,700 graduates of this year’s class, 650 NOVA students donned those black caps and participated in the graduation ceremony.

Students who chose to attend the ceremony were recognized individually by degree type. James L. White, chair of the Northern Virginia Community College Board said that looking out at the graduates “I see the future of Northern Virginia”. College President Robert Templin noted that this year’s graduates hailed from 180 countries.

The Nationals came into the eighth trailing 4-2 and steady showers falling. After Destin Hood struck out to open the inning, the crucial rally began. Justin Bloxom hit his second home run of the evening to pull Potomac within one. Steven Souza then hit a bullet into center field before J.P. Ramirez dropped a blooper into left field to put two runners aboard with one away. Sandy Leon hit a ground ball to short that cut down Ramirez at second and put the Rocks within one out of a rain-shortened victory.

But Justin Marks walked Francisco Soriano to load the bases and bring Perez to the plate. The center fielder’s shot into center brought home two runs and gave Potomac (13-21) a quasi walk-off victory.

Now five men — four of them from Woodbridge — are now in custody.

Stafford sheriff’s deputies were called at 1:20 p.m. to an apartment complex on Kendrick Court in the England Run area, near the England Run Branch of the Central Rappahannock Library, after a man had barricaded himself and an infant in a bathroom.
