Officers were called to a home in the 1500 block of Walnut Street in Woodbridge after the 33-year-old victim said she was assaulted by a male acquaintance that held her against her will.

The victim was eventually able to leave the house and call police the following day, said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.


Fairfax County, Va. –– Fairfax County Public Schools has adopted a budget for fiscal year 2012 which includes expanding full day kindergarten to all of Fairfax County.

The $2.2 billion budget also includes a one percent market scale adjustment for all employees and step increased for those eligible, according to a Fairfax County Public Schools release.


Interstate 95 Tuesday – Thursday, 5 p.m. – 4:30 a.m.; motorists will be restricted to one lane on I-95 north and south at the bridge over the Rappahannock River located just south of Exit 133 (Rt. 17/Falmouth) for bridge joint repairs. Lane closures will begin on the northbound span and move to the southbound span. Expect delays.

U.S. 1 South Tuesday, 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.; motorists will be restricted to one lane on Route 1 south from the Potomac Creek Bridge to south of Route 628. Crews will be milling, paving and striping in this area.


The safety message is part of a joint effort from both Stafford County and Fredericksburg officials to remind residents to be safe over the Memorial Day weekend.

“The Rappahannock River is a beautiful natural resource, but I strongly discourage people from getting in the water,” said Stafford County Administrator Anthony Romanello. “The river can be deadly to those who are not familiar with it. Anyone who must enter the river needs to practice safety at all times, which includes wearing a personal floatation device if an individual must go into the water.”


Police say someone broke into the high school on Old Bridge Road in Lake Ridge between 1:25 and 2:30 a.m. Saturday and sprayed fire extinguishers, poor liquids on floors and glued coins to door locks.

On Thursday, police say they’ve arrested the culprits behind the vandalism.
