The call went out a 5:42 p.m. Saturday, prompting volunteer fire crews to arrive at the scene within minutes of the blaze erupting, said OWL VFD spokeswoman Rebecca Barnes. Crews spotted smoke billowing from the side of the home, crews pulled an attack line into the, found the fire in the attic and doused it, said Barnes.

No one was injured in the fire, and fire crews found no working smoke detectors in the home. The occupants of the house were displaced, and the fire caused $30,000 in damage and investigators ruled the cause of the fire accidental.


Stafford VA – On November 9, 2011 Stafford County Fire and Rescue Department held a graduation ceremony at Stafford Senior High School for its sixth recruit academy.

During the eighteen week academy the students successfully completed Firefighter I&II, EMT-B, Hazardous Material Operations, Mayday Firefighter Down, Vehicle Awareness and Operations and EVOC.


Lake Ridge, Va. – The man in the big red suit is coming to Lake Ridge tomorrow as part of Santa’s Old Bridge Parade.

The parade kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday ringing in the holiday season in this neighborhood. The parade route stretches down Old Bridge Road – Lake Ridge’s main street and a popular commuter road – from Mohican Road west to Smoketown Road.

Dumfries, Va. – As much as he was fired up lately about a foul stench coming from a landfill, he was equally as excited about a new park and coming street scape improvements on Dumfries’  Main Street.


The county won the Distinguished Budget Recognition Award from the Government Finance Officers Association. The group examined how county leaders stick to their outlined budget as a driver to set public policy, how well it serves as a financial plan, as well as strengths and weaknesses in communication.

Earlier this year, the Stafford County Board of Supervisors passed a $241.2 million budget that included a reduction of the number of county government employees and a decrease in real estate taxes.

Quantico, Va. — The Command Post Pub in Quantico is about to get new life Monday.

The popular Tiziano’s Italian Restaurant in Dumfries will open a second location at the old Q Town staple on Potomac Avenue and will be called Tiziano’s at the Command Post Pub. Owner Robert Aquino, 58, says he’s excited to open a new business in a place that for more than 30 years had served Marines and locals alike.


North Stafford, Va. — A composite sketch of the man police think could have tried to abduct a girl in the Garrison Woods Apartments off Onville Road in North Stafford one week ago is out.

Stafford sheriff’s authorities said the man is light skinned, possibly Hispanic, thin but muscular and had short black hair that was spiked in front. Police added the man did not have any facial hair and that he spoke with a faint accent.
