MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. (Jan. 19, 2011) – The National Museum of the Marine Corps’ newest temporary exhibit, titled “Focus on
Ability: Celebrating Our Wounded, Ill and Injured Marines’ Achievements,” features photographs and artwork of wounded, ill and injured Marines thriving on their journey to recovery. The exhibit will be on display on the Museum’s second floor Jan. 20 through May 10, 2012.
“The goal of the Park Authority is to provide premier parks and recreation services to the residents of Prince William County,” said Brenda Gardziel, Park Authority Chair. “When you begin to factor in the number of residents we have to serve, the amount of park-land to develop and preserve, and the number of participants in our recreational activities, it becomes clear that by merging into Prince William County Government, there will be greater opportunities to meet the growing needs of our citizens.”
The Park Authority was established as a separate corporation in 1977, by the Board of County Supervisors, to provide the residents and visitors with quality recreational programs, parks and facilities. At that time, Prince William County had a population of over 150,000 residents and three parks. Today, Prince William County serves over 410,000 residents with 67 park properties comprising over 4,000 acres, and 289 fields. The majority of funding for the Park Authority comes from the County’s General Fund.
PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VIRGINIA . . . The Prince William Neighborhood Conference is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Development Services, 5 County Complex Court in Woodbridge. The event, “Bringing Innovation to the Places We Live,” focuses on community engagement techniques and other topics of current interest. Special instruction will be offered specifically for residents interested in more effective participation in homeowner and condominium associations (HOAs and COAs).
Registration opens Jan. 25,2012. Pay by Feb. 21 for a reduced fee of $25. The fee includes admission, access to all session materials, handouts, a continental breakfast, refreshments, and lunch. Registrants after Feb. 21 and walk-ins will be charged $35.
Prince William, VA- The Prince William Ice Center (5180 Dale Blvd, Woodbridge, VA 22193) will play host to about 1,000 skaters, families, officials and spectators from around the country this weekend during a national speedskating competition .
The Prince William Ice Center was selected to host the event because of its Olympic-size rink, proximity to area airports and because it has the capacity to hold spectators, said Alison Mittelstadt, event committee member for the U.S. Junior National Short-Track Speedskating competition. Speedskating is also growing in popularity in the greater Washington area, she said, with about one-third of the participants coming from the D.C. region.

Lake Ridge, Va. — Those pulling into the drive through at a McDonalds restaurant in Lake Ridge could be in for a surprise when they find the fast food joint closed for renovations.
The work here has been going on for the better part of the month. It comes after several other McDonalds locations in the Potomac Communities have been renovated.
Occoquanwaterfront.com reports a small island off the shores of Belmont Bay in Woodbridge is on the marketplace.
What’s the catch? You’ll have to cough up a pretty penny for this spot of land.
The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office was recognized by the International Association of Chiefs of Police for excellence in two areas. The Stafford Sheriff’s Office was presented a trophy as a finalist in the international Webber Seavey Award.
