Virginia’s General Assembly reconvenes in Richmond Jan. 12 11 for 60 days, and both state senators and delegates want to hear from residents about their concerns. Legislators will also share information about the upcoming session.

As of Wednesday, Sen. George Barker (D-39, Alexandria, Fairfax, Prince William), Del. Richard Anderson (R-51, Prince William), Del. Luke Torian, D-52, Dumfries, Occoquan, Woodbridge) Del. Scott Lingamfelter (R-31, Woodbridge) and Del. Elect Mark Dudenhefer (R-2, Stafford, Woodbridge) have confirmed they attend the meeting,.


Stafford, Va. — A former school principal in Manassas will take over at Colonial Forge High School in Stafford, the school now infamously known for the Banana Man controversy.

Michael Byers will begin his duties at the school Jan. 3, after relocating from his current position as assistant principal at Briar Woods High School in Loudoun County, said Stafford schools spokeswoman Valerie Cottongim.


Stafford, Va. — The first African American elected to the Stafford County Board of Supervisors ended his term Tuesday night amidst controversy.

Robert “Bob” Woodson who’s represented the Griffis-Widewater District in North Stafford since 2008 left the Board Chambers without the approval of two fellow supervisors, Aquia District Supervisor Paul Milde and Rock Hill District Supervisor Cord Sterling.

The Woodbridge Workers Committee and others in the Woodbridge and Manassas communities are joining together to create a toy drive for low income families in our community.

This has been a very difficult year for many families in our community due to very harsh economic economic conditions and the tragic flood of the Holly Acres Mobile Home Park.


Sheriff’s deputies were called to the Kohls department store at Stafford Marketplace in North Stafford on Saturday after a man walked into the store, picked up three coffee makers – each valued at $200 — sitting in the front of the store and then unsuccessfully tried to return them, said Stafford sheriff’s spokesman Bill Kennedy.

The man then took the coffee makers and left the store and went to his car outside, but and employee followed him outside, questioned him and asked the man to come back inside, said Kennedy. The man refused and placed the coffee makers on the ground, got in his car and left.


Ken Lashay Wood, 43, of no fixed address, was killed while crossing the four-lane highway near Panther Pride Drive near Potomac High School about 9:20 p.m. Sunday.

A 2003 GMC Envoy was traveling south on U.S. 1 and struck Wood after it passed thorugh the intersection. Wood was walking alongside the road, said Prince William police.


Prince William County, Va. — The communication system used by first responders in Prince William County could soon get an upgrade.

County officials want to replace the radio system used by county police, fire and rescue personnel, public schools, sheriff’s office and jail with a new system guaranteed to last 15 years. It comes with a $16 million contract price tag with nearly $6 million in incentives worked into the deal, according to county documents.
