PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — Small Town USA this isn’t. Our town today is the world, made smaller through the Internet. Today’s global melting pot is in our schools, where the universal language is an encouraging smile; language barriers are overcome with laughter; and eyes open wide with wonder.

Such expressive means to communicate are often the first resort for newcomers who represent over 105 languages and 160 cultures that are thriving in the homes of Prince William County Public School (PWCS) students.

RICHMOND, Va. – Campus police officers across Virginia frequently put their lives at risk, just like members of any city, county or state police force. But in the eyes of the law, campus police are not considered law enforcement officers. A bill passed by the General Assembly would change this.


LAKE RIDGE, Va. — Police announced the arrest of a Lake Ridge man suspected of possessing child pornography.

Officials with the Northern Virginia / Washington, D.C. Internet Crimes against Children Task Force, or ICAC, were tipped off to their suspect in August. During an ongoing investigation police obtained a search warrant for their suspect’s home at 4120 Burning Ridge Court off Springwoods Drive in Lake Ridge on August 25. But it wasn’t until Feb. 7 that the suspect was charged with a crime, according to Prince William police documents.

DUMFRIES, Va. – Dumfries Town Councilwoman Michele D. Jurgensen announced her resignation at the March 7 town council meeting. Jurgensen was elected to and began serving on the council in 2010. Her term officially ends June 30, 2014. However, according to the councilwoman, her husband, Lt. Col. Eric Jurgensen of the United States Air Force, was selected to be commander of the 11th Field investigations Squadron in San Antonio, Texas.
