STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — A biplane landed at Stafford Regional Airport on Thursday afternoon escorted by a U.S. Coast Guard HH 65 Dolphin Helicopter.

Officials at NORAD, charged with watching the skies over the Nation’s Capital, said an Ultimate 200 Biplane crept into restricted airspace over Washington just after 5 p.m. Thursday. A Coast Guard helicopter was scrambled which intercepted the plane and escorted it to the airport in Stafford County, according to a NORAD press release.


PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — The Prince William County School Board will honor one of its own on March 29, as Chairman At-Large Milton C. Johns presents a 50-year pin to Board Member Betty D. Covington (Potomac) for her service to children and the School Division for 50 years. Over the years Covington has been a teacher, administrator, and School Board member.

She is among 259 Prince William County Public School (PWCS) employees who will be honored during at a ceremony at Hylton High School.

NORTH STAFFORD, Va. — A hotel guest in North Stafford got more than he bargained for on a recent trip, according to a website called “The Bedbug Registry.”

A posting on the website was apparently made by a guest who stayed at the Comfort Inn Quantico on Salisbury Drive, off Va. 610, about March 16. The writer states he found five bedbugs in his room “crawling on the fitted sheet” as he was making his bed.


PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. –– A proposed measure that would have given all Prince William County Public Schools employees a raise has failed.

Prince William Schools Superintendent Steven L. Walts put forth a revised budget that included a two-percent raise for all school employees. But the county’s School Board denied passage of the newly proposed budget in a meeting Wednesday night.


OCCOQUAN, Va. — Two former Virginia first ladies will tour portions of the Potomac Communities on Thursday, stumping for their husbands who are running for U.S. Senate.

Susan Allen will stop in Falmouth in Stafford County at 10:30 a.m. at the Warrenton Road Park and Ride lot on U.S. 17 where she’ll be joined by Virginia State Senator Bryce Reeves, Delegate Mark Dudenhefer, and Stafford County Board of Supervisors Chairman Susan Stimpson.


NORTH STAFFORD, Va. — Stafford officials Tuesday night deferred a vote that would move forward on a plan to bring a technology and research center to the area.

The Stafford Board of Supervisors said they needed more time to meet with stakeholders and review plans for the research facility. The center would come as part of a public-private partnership that would develop a new research park in the Quantico Corporate Center off U.S. 1 in North Stafford.
