OCCOQUAN, Va. — Millions of drivers each year cross the Occoquan River on Interstate 95’s Purple Heart Bridge in Woodbridge.
WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A taxicab driver was carjacked in Woodbridge early Monday.
Police were called to Prince William Parkway and York Drive at 2:45 a.m., where the driver told officers he was stopped at a traffic light when his fare began to assault him and then ordered him out of the cab. The driver got out, the fare hopped into the front seat and then drove away, according to police documents.
LORTON, Va. – Five high school artists from Prince William and Fairfax won awards Saturday in Congressman Gerry Connolly’s annual 11th District Congressional Art Competition. The artwork of the first prize winner – Hope Martin of Battlefield High School in Haymarket – will hang in the U.S. Capitol for the next year where it will be seen by hundreds of thousands.
This year’s competition featured the largest number of submissions to date. Students who participated in the competition were recognized Saturday at a ceremony hosted by Congressman Connolly at the Lorton Workhouse Arts Center. More than 250 family members, students, and teachers joined Connolly at the reception to view the art work and congratulate the winners and honorable mention recipients. Each winner received a scholarship award.
WOODBRIDGE, Va – The Winston-Salem Dash pounded out a season-high five home runs and 17 hits en route to their eighth straight win beating the Potomac Nationals 10-5. Winston-Salem has beaten Potomac in all five matchups this season.
Winston-Salem had five players with multi-hit games highlighted by Dan Black’s 4-for-5 night with a home run and Brady Shoemaker’s first multi-home run game of the season. Black now has seven home runs on the season and the Dash have scored 66 runs during their eight-game winning streak.

NORTH STAFFORD, Va. — The plans have been on the books for years. Now officials want your input on widening a nearly three-mile stretch of U.S. 1 between North Stafford and Triangle.
A public meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 10, at Hilldrup Moving and Storage in North Stafford, right where the eventual construction would take place, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Federal Highway Administration as well as local officials are expected to make a presentation at 7 p.m. outlining a preliminary engineering and design project to widen the four-lane highway between Fuller/Joplin roads in Triangle to Boswell’s Corner in North Stafford.
