DALE CITY, Va. – The parking lot of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars building on Minnieville Road was full hours before First Lady Michelle Obama was slated to appear. So was the parking lot of the Staples Mill Shopping Center down the street. Nearby neighborhood roads were lined with cars as people walked some distance to see the first lady speak on behalf of her husband’s campaign.
OCCOQUAN, Va. — Molly Glenn and her coworkers at Mom’s Apple Pie in Occoquan got a call about 1 p.m. Thursday. A person on the other end of the line informed them “someone from D.C. was coming.”
Hoping to make the bakery known for its homemade pies and breads even more presentable than usual, Glenn and coworkers hurried to clean. Later, another phone call – this time from the Secret Service – informed them that their D.C. visitor would be First Lady Michelle Obama.
OCCOQUAN, Va. — Historic Occoquan will be home to a 5K run and walk this weekend, to benefit the Washington Regional Transplant Community.
Dubbed “The Race to Donate Life,” the event will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday but events associated with the run/walk will start as early as 7:30 a.m. This is the first time the event has been held, and the first time Occoquan has been chosen to hold the event.
WOODBRIDGE, Va. — The Virginia Special Olympics torch will pass through Prince William County this afternoon, escorted by the county’s police department.
The annual running of the torch through Woodbridge on its way to Richmond for this weekend’s games will start at 2 p.m., as runners cross into Woodbridge from Fairfax County.

STAFFORD, Va. — Virginia Department of Transportation and consultant officials will be available from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 14 to share details on the project and the design process, which is currently underway. The public is invited to stop by to learn about the project, its history and purpose, and to review the project schedule, preliminary design, maps and project documents, and to ask questions.
VDOT also invites the public to submit written or oral comments at the meeting.
MANASSAS PARK, Va. — Load your gently used but unwanted children’s items in the car and join Manassas Park Parks and Recreation Department at the First Annual Baby Yard Sale. The yard sale takes place at the Manassas Park Community Center on Saturday from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Baby clothes, toddler clothes and even clothes for older kids, as well as toys and accessories will be available. The event will be located in the main parking lot at the Community Center at Costello Park at 99 Adams Street.
LORTON, Va. —A once-in-a-lifetime event brought about 30 people out to the Vulcan rock quarry above Occoquan.
WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Senate hopeful George Allen will join Virginia Lt. Governor hopeful and Prince William At-large Board Chairman Corey Stewart on a tour of Woodbridge Wednesday.
Allen will appear at 8 a.m. for a breakfast at Appliance Connection in Woodbridge, a kitchen electrics store owned by Prince William Coles District Supervisor Marty Nohe.
WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Elected officials in Prince William County today voted to do away with discretionary funds.
In a letter from At-large Board Chairman Corey Stewart, the county’s top official announced the Board banned the monies known as slush funds from their budgets. The funds were not in the best interest of the county government or taxpayers, stated Stewart.
