STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — Stafford’s top educators have been recognized by that’s county’s public school system, which awarded the Educator of the Year Award at a reception at Mountain View High School last week.

OCCOQUAN, Va. — Heavy rains Wednesday night had Occoquan officials on watch for rising water as The National Weather Service placed Prince William County under a flood warning.

No flooding has been reported in the town so far, but the river that runs through much of Prince William County appeared swollen this afternoon.


UPDATE
Those involved in the crash suffered injuries that did not appear to be life threatening, said Virginia State Police Sgt. Les Tyler. The crash remains under investigation and more details are expected later.

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — A homeless man was shot and killed in an apparent act of self-defense.

A man and woman were sitting a parked car having a conversation outside Earl’s Hardware at 300 Chatham Heights Drive in Falmouth when they saw two men walking across the parking lot about 11 p.m. Tuesday. One of the men came up to car and asked the male occupant for cash. The man declined and told the beggar and his companion to go away.


WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A speed trap helped to nab a woman who authorities said was involved in the stabbing of a man in Woodbridge.

Police about 3:30 p.m. Sunday were called to the 13900 block of U.S. 1 in Woodbridge, where a man was stabbed in the arm outside of a convenience store. Police said the victim was apparently stabbed by an acquaintance, and was later flown to a hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life threatening.


WILMINGTON, Del. – The Wilmington Blue Rocks used a three run eighth inning to beat the Potomac Nationals 4-2 in Delaware on Tuesday night. For the first time this season, the P-Nats lost a game they led after seven innings.

Potomac starter Robbie Ray cruised through the first two innings striking out five of the seven batters he faced. Ray had a 10 pitch second inning where he struck out the side. Wilmington did get to Ray in the third. With two outs and no one on, Whit Merrifield worked a walk then stole second. Geulin Beltre lined a single to center that scored Merrifild to give Wilmington a 1-0 lead.


Public swimming pools across the Potomac Communities will reopen Saturday.

In Prince William, all of the county’s waterparks and community pools open Saturday and will continue operating on weekends only through June 16. The summer schedule begins June 16 and runs through Sept. 3, according to Prince William County Park Authority spokeswoman Diane Cabot.
