DUMFRIES, Va. — The General Heiser Boys and Girls Club Branch in Dumfries will hold a special open house event for the community on Saturday.

The event, which will promote the club’s “Send a Kid to Camp” program, will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will showcase a new kitchen and other improvements installed inside the club which have been donated by Ikea of Woodbridge.


WOODBRIDGE, Va. — New routing for the Woodbridge / Lake Ridge OmniLink local bus service will take effect on June 4, helping area residents to more easily reach destinations including the SkillSource Center, which is a partner of the Virginia Employment Commission. The new routing along Minnieville, Caton Hill and Telegraph roads also will ease access for those who need to reach the Woodbridge Department of Motor Vehicles, Strayer University, an area dialysis center and shopping destinations including Target.

The Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission, PRTC, updates its schedules twice annually – in the spring and fall – to reflect current running times and make other changes such as updating routing and relocating bus stops as necessary. This year’s Spring Service Change is scheduled for June 4.


WOODBRIDGE, Va. — The Washington Nationals have announced that OF/1B Michael Morse will join the Potomac Nationals tonight on a rehab assignment. The P-Nats face the Myrtle Beach Pelicans at 7:05 PM in Woodbridge tonight. Morse is currently on the Washington 15-Day DL with a torn right lat muscle. The length of the assignment with Potomac is unknown with the P-Nats home until Sunday.

Morse will be wearing #38 with Potomac.


GOLDVEIN, Va. — Two small planes collided over Fauquier County just Sunday killing two people.

One of them burst into flames upon impact, and two bodies were found inside the plane which seats six. The male pilot of the second plane survived the crash, was conscious and talking to Virginia State Police deputies on the scene, and was taken to Mary Washington Hospital, said state police spokeswoman Corinne Geller.


Summer has officially arrived in the Potomac Communities and the temperatures will be hot today.

A heat advisory is in effect from Spotsylvania County in Virginia north to Baltimore in Maryland, including Washington, D.C. from noon until 9 p.m., as temperatures hovering around 90 degrees and heat index values that will make it feel like it’s in the mid-90s, according to the National Weather Service.


FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — In the wake of a stabbing of three horses on April 26, more barnyard animals have been injured by an unknown assailant at the Kidwell Barn at Frying Pan Park in the Herndon area. Two goats, a calf and a chicken were cut by an unknown object during the nighttime hours between 5 p.m. Saturday, May 26 and 7 a.m. Sunday, May 27.

Farm staff discovered the injuries around 8 a.m. when they went to feed the animals. The calf and one of the goats are both under a year old and bottle-fed. They have no fear of humans and would approach anyone who came near thinking they might be fed.


WOODBRIDGE, Va. – On behalf of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and its Commandant of Cadets, U.S. Air Force Major General Randal D. Fullhart, Delegate Richard L. Anderson recently presented an “Emerging Leader Scholarship” (ELS) to Gar-Field High School graduating senior Kacey M. Adams. The setting was at the annual Gar-Field High School Senior Awards Night in front of several hundred of her friends, family, and classmates.

Del. Anderson was a member of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets during his time at Virginia Tech and graduated in 1979. He entered the U.S. Air Force that same year and retired in 2009 as a full colonel after 30 years in uniform.


LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Lynchburg Hillcats used three home runs off of Potomac starter Matt Swynenberg to beat the Nationals 7-2 at City Stadium on Saturday night. With the win, Lynchburg increased their Northern Division lead over Potomac to 6.5 games.

P-Nats starter RHP Matt Swynenberg came into tonight’s contest giving up just one home run in 2012 over 45 innings. In the second with a runner at first, Edward Salcedo smacked a 1-1 pitch over the left field fence and the Hillcats took a 2-0 lead.
