During the October 18, 2024, VRE Operations Board meeting, it was announced that invitations have been sent out for the event, with all necessary travel details, including train schedules, provided to ensure smooth participation. The excitement surrounding the completion of these upgrades was evident, with board members and VRE staff expressing their enthusiasm for what the improvements will mean for the station and the surrounding community.

“I’m very excited about the upcoming ribbon-cutting at Quantico. This project has been in the works for quite some time, and we’re thrilled to see it finally come to fruition,” said Prince William County Supervisor Andrea Bailey, who sits on the VRE Operations Board.


Formerly known as the Ben Lomond Community Center until 2015, the building has been a community hub for many years in providing programming and events. The festival will have activities for all ages, food trucks, STEM projects, musical instrument demonstrations, giveaways and much more.

A suspect was arrested on October 15 for a strong-arm robbery that occurred on September 15 near Manassas. An additional suspect was arrested earlier, and both face charges related to the incident. In addition, on October 16, officers responded to a robbery at a Shell service station near Woodbridge, where an unknown man pushed an employee and stole money before fleeing.

On October 16, officers found two adults and two girls in a vehicle in Woodbridge, where suspected illegal drugs were accessible to the children. The adults were arrested and charged with child neglect and drug possession, while the children were treated at a hospital but were not injured.

On October 17, officers responded to a crash on Mapledale Avenue in Dale City where a Nissan Versa struck a pedestrian walking her dog, resulting in the pedestrian’s death. The driver remained at the scene and was uninjured, with charges pending as the investigation continues.

The training is open to all faith-based organizations in an effort to assist them in securing a safe worship environment. The event will be lecture-based and provide tools for organizations to keep worship spaces secure, as well as an introduction to the Worship Watch Program (WWP).

According to the county’s website, WWP is a proactive program that encourages houses of worship to become more involved in reducing the opportunity for crimes to occur on their premises. The program operates similarly to a community watch program.


On October 8, 2024, a suspect turned himself in to police in connection with residential shootings that occurred on April 7, 2023, in Dale City. The individual faces multiple charges related to the incidents, which were linked to gang activity, and the investigation is ongoing as detectives seek additional suspects.
