Prince William County to Celebrate America Recycles Day with Library Events and Recycling Pledge Contest

 On November 15, Prince William County will join communities across the nation in celebration of the America Recycles Day (ARD). ARD, an initiative of Keep America Beautiful is an annual awareness campaign dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States since 1997.

To celebrate America Recycles Day, County staff and Keep Prince William Beautiful volunteers will be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to talk with residents about recycling in Prince William County and the “I Recycle” pledge contest at Chinn Park Regional Library on November 13, and Central Library on November 15.

Suspect Wanted for Carjacking Near Dale City

On October 31, officers responded to a robbery investigation near Manassas involving a victim who arranged to sell his vehicle through Facebook Marketplace. The suspect brandished a firearm, demanded the victim’s phone, and drove off with the vehicle, but later returned it before fleeing on foot; all property was recovered.

Man Stabbed at Shopping Center Near Manassas

On October 29, a stabbing was reported on Stream Walk Lane. A 41-year-old man was cut multiple times during a verbal argument with a 28-year-old suspect, who is now wanted for aggravated malicious wounding. The victim was treated for serious injuries, and efforts to find the suspect have not been successful.

Prince William Board of County Supervisors Chair Deshundra Jefferson Recovers from Crohn’s Disease Surgery, Ready to Address Housing, Data Center Issues

Prince William Board of County Supervisors Chair, at-large Deshundra Jefferson, is on the mend after having had surgery for Crohn’s disease. This chronic inflammatory bowel condition has affected her health over the past two years.

Now two weeks post-surgery, Jefferson reports feeling “pretty good” and looks forward to resuming her duties full-time, including attending Zoom meetings and tackling a backlog of emails next week. Despite her temporary absence, Jefferson is grateful for her colleagues, especially Supervisor Boddye, who stepped up in her absence, as well as her staff, friends, and supportive 16-year-old son. “These things are kind of frightening until you actually go through them,” she shared, noting the relief of finally addressing symptoms that had worsened over the past few months.

Prince William County Sees Lower Early-Voter Turnout

As early voting for the November 5, 2024, General Election heads into its final days, over 95,000 voters in Prince William County have already cast their ballots either in person or by mail, according to data from the county’s General Registrar, Eric Olsen.

I-66 Express Mobility Partners Donates $25k to Mobile STEM Lab

According to a press release from I-66 EMP — an alliance of infrastructure companies contracted to work in a public-private partnership with the Virginia Department of Transportation — the largest donation to date will be put toward a new mobile laboratory supporting science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education in the county. Last year, I-66 EMP donated $23,000 to support the installation of maker spaces at middle schools in PWCS.

“Over the years, [I-66 EMP have] proven to be an unwavering supporter of public education here in Prince William. We’re appreciative of this donation and we’re excited to see the benefits for all our students,” Dawn Davis, executive director of SPARK, said.

Drivers Can No Longer Make Left Turns at University Blvd, Prince William Parkway Intersection

Prince William County has implemented a new jughandle turn to connect Discovery Boulevard to the parkway. A jughandle turn is meant to eliminate traditional left turns at intersections and allow drivers to use a curved ramp on the right side to loop around. From the loop, drivers wait at a signal to either cross the main road or make a left turn onto a side street.

“The jughandle turn is part of ongoing efforts to improve traffic flow and minimize delays during peak travel times,” a county press release on the change stated. “Removing left turns at this busy intersection will help reduce congestion and enhance safety for residents and commuters.”
