FAIRFAX, Va. — Mark Gibson, independent candidate for Virginia’s 11th Congressional District, says he’s eager to engage the other candidates and media in a forum on Wednesday, September 12 at 8 p.m. televised by Reston Community Television, RCTV28 on Comcast. But, Gibson said, “I’m disappointed that the incumbent has declined.”

Gibson will appear along with Republican candidate Chris Perkins and Green Party candidate Joe Galdo. Moderated by Colin Mills, President of the Reston Citizens Association, and John Lovaas, host of RCTV28’s Reston Impact, journalists from three media outlets serving Reston – The Connection, Fairfax Times, and Patch.com – will pose questions to the candidates.

DUMFRIES, Va. — With fall on the doorstep, Dumfries will ring in the post-summer season this weekend at Garrison Park behind Town Hall.

The town’s annual Fall Festival begins at 10 a.m. Saturday and goes until 5 p.m. Festival-goers can expect plenty of wine tastings, music, a talent competition, food, and arts and crafts, and product vendors at the fair.


WOODBRIDGE, Va. — New life is being breathed into the rides of many commuters.

A total of 61 OmniRide commuter buses are in the process of being overhauled. The transit agency is nearing the halfway point of the project with the 29th bus completed last month, and the 30th bus that needs an overhaul is ready to be placed in the shop.


WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Funeral services for Woodbridge Occoquan Lorton VFD Fire Chief Richard Arrington will be held Saturday, and local roads will be impacted by a funeral procession.

After the ceremony at First Baptist Church on at Prince William Parkway and Minnieville Road in Woodbridge at noon, a motorcade will leave the church for Fairfax County.


QUANTICO, Va. — Officials at Quantico Maine Corps Base gave the all-clear late Thursday night after someone claimed to have spotted a man with a gun on base.

The reported gunman was said to be near the child development center on base. Marines were sent to check out the situation and the child development center, and Quantico Middle/High School was placed on lockdown, according to a Quantico spokesman.
