As the storm is expected to pick up speed and make its way closer to Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic states, it’s also expected to bring a storm surge of two to four feet to the lower Chesapeake Bay, heavy rain between four and 12 inches in some spots, and high wind.
Conditions in the Potomac Communities are expected to start downhill Sunday night as rain moves in and wind picks up. Wind and rain is expected to pick up Monday as Sandy moves over the area.

An emergency services source tells PotomacLocal.com a male was killed tonight after he ran in front of a car traveling near Spriggs and Lindendale roads.
Police at 4:50 p.m. Friday said a medevac helicopter was called the scene to take the injured to a local hospital.
No further details on the incident have been released. Drivers should expect delays in the area, police state.

Doreen Phillips held the Hartwood District seat on the Stafford County School Board and resigned today after it came to light she no longer lived in the county, but instead has a Fredericksburg address. Virginia law states elected officials must live in the district they represent.
WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A fire engine that called to the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001 will be on display today in Prince William County.
The engine once owned by the City of New York’s fire department has been brought to Woodbridge and will eventually become apart of the collection of the new American’s In Wartime Museum slated to open in Dale City.
LAKE RIDGE, Va. — After it seemed like a swim team would be without a permanent home, and after community outcry, the Lake Ridge Lancers Swim Team will stay in Lake Ridge.
Lancers Swim Team President David Ross penned an email to his team detailing an agreement between the team and the Lake Ridge Swim Club that will allow the team to use the facility for the 2013 season.
