Transurban, the operator of the 495 and 95 Express Lanes, announced today that three local organizations – Coles Elementary School, Lake Jackson Volunteer Fire Department and Mount Vernon and Lee Chamber of Commerce – will receive grants this quarter through the Express Lanes Community Grant Program.  The grant program supports organizations located within the 495 and 95 Express Lanes corridors that undertake projects that sustain, enhance and protect the local community.

Manassas City Public Schools (MCPS) is teaming up with Footsteps2Brilliance (F2B) in an effort to accelerate early learning, close the literacy gap and support English language learners.

F2B is an interactive, mobile literacy program that has been proven to increase academy vocabulary, comprehension and critical thinking skills in young children. Additionally, the F2B library consists of beautifully written and illustrated e-books complete with an English/Spanish toggle switch on every page to reach even the most struggling readers.


Canine Companions for Independence – a national non-profit organization that provides assistance dogs for children and adults with disabilities, is proud to announce that Dumfries resident Julie Kelly and family recently began raising an assistance dog in-training for Canine Companions for Independence.

Puppy Lincoln is a lab/golden retriever cross who will one-day know over 50 commands, and be matched with a person with disabilities.


Dominion Resources recently awarded $1.2 million in grants supporting environmental initiatives across the Commonwealth and in areas served by Dominion. The grants were made available through the Dominion Foundation, the company’s philanthropic arm.
