We citizens of the Potomac Magisterial District and the 31st House of Delegates District need effective representation.

The election of Andrea Bailey to the Potomac District seat on the Prince William Board of County Supervisors and Sara Townsend to the 31st Virginia House of Delegates District seat in the Virginia General Assembly on November 3 will meet this need.

When I first met Mr. Joseph George, one of the candidates running for Neabsco District School Board, it was at Minnieville Elementary School in 2010 where both our daughters were attending 3rd Grade.

We began talking and it became apparent early on in our conversation that he was very involved with his children and their school lives. Throughout the years I’ve known him, he has always been willing to volunteer to make his children happy, as well as others, by becoming Santa during the Holidays and or by being the first to step up if help was needed in the classroom.

In less than a week, voters will head to the polls here in Virginia to cast their ballots for representation in the Virginia General Assembly.

It is imperative that we send a message and elect leaders who support women’s health care—now and in the future. For too long, anti-choice advocates have attempted to defund Planned Parenthood. They have failed in the past and they will fail again.

Robotics teams compete at the annual ILITE Robotics Off-Season Challenge (IROC). Twenty-two high school teams from Virginia, Maryland and DC gathered to compete on Saturday, October 24 in Recycle Rush®, the 2015 FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC) challenge.

In the game of Recycle Rush®, alliances of three robots driven by students work together to lift totes and recycling bins into tall stacks to earn points. FRC combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. Each robot and its unique features are designed, built, and programmed by students. “It’s more than the thrill of robot performance.

The best kept secret in local high school athletics just might be unfolding in Brentsville this season, as Coach Amy Beard’s ladies of the Brentsville Volleyball Team are spiking, digging, and blocking their way into postseason play.

The Lady Tigers have quietly put together a 12-6 season so far (10-2 vs Conference Opponents, 12-2 vs division 3A opponents), and hopes of a push well into the postseason are high among players and fans.

Although there is much ado about The Event this weekend as we try and bring as many people into Georgetown South as possible so they can donate to “Reyna’s Children,” we may be losing sight of the woman behind the cause.

Her name is Reyna Torres Alatriste who I watched break down in tears as she realized that her idea of sending her children to Mexico ahead of her so she could fight the cancer here was a ridiculous idea because she would not last any time at all without being able to see her kids, Yarizel (11), Rebecca (10), Marking (5) and Esther (3).
