Today it was announced via a press release that Delegate Danica Roem (D-13th) has been appointed to the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA). The NVTA provides funding for road, mass transit, and multi-modal transportation projects in Northern Virginia.
The appointment was made official by Virginia House of Delegates Speaker Eileen Filler-Corn.
A message board that reads “Vote #TeamHaymarket” has stirring up debate about what type of campaign signs are allowed in the town.
Haymarket resident Rebecca Smith originally posted a photo of the message board to Facebook, alleging the sign’s presence at the corner of Washington and Jefferson streets is a violation of Haymarket Town Ordinance 58-15.5(h) which prohibits electronic message boards.
Jon Gerlach is running for a seat on the Fredericksburg City Council.
Gerlach is a man who wears many hats. In addition to owning and operating Gerlach Law Firm for 33 years, he has a business, Safe Passage International, which is dedicated to finding solutions for victims of kidnapping, extortion, ransom, and other specialties.
Matt Kelly is running for re-election to represent Ward 3 in Fredericksburg, a city he’s known and served for a long time.
A graduate of Mary Washington College, Kelly has served on several boards and commissions such as the Fredericksburg Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Historic Preservation Working Group, and the Local Emergency Planning Committee, just to name a few.
It’s looking like Manassas City will have a female mayor for the first time in its 147-year history.
Mayor Hal Parrish II announced his retirement at a small gathering at Okras restaurant in Downtown Manassas in February. It came as a surprise to many, as he’s served as mayor since 2008, and has been on the city council since 1993.

Lavangelene Aereka “Vangie” Williams says she’ll participate in a Democratic forum scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3 on Facebook Live. The two-time candidate for Virginia’s 1st Congressional District will face a Primary opponent, Qasim Rashid, who last year ran for the 28th District seat in the Virginia House of Delegates Senate seat and lost to Joshua Cole Richard Stuart (R).
There’s an election coming up in Fredericksburg on May 19, where city residents will have a chance to elect new members of the city council and school board.

Ann Little is running for Mayor of the City of Fredericksburg.
She’ll face incumbent Mayor Katherine Greenlaw in an upcoming city-wide election on May 19. That election was postponed from May 5 by order of Gov. Ralph Northam, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Both the May General and Special Elections, as well as the June Primary elections, have been postponed by an executive order from Gov. Ralph Northam.
The original May 5 and June 9 elections will now be held on May 19 and June 23, respectively.
Gov. Ralph Northam recently signed a bill that would define hemp extract, such as CBD, as food and usher in state regulations on these products.
Senate Bill 918, patroned by Sen. David Marsden, D-Fairfax, will help guide the budding industrial hemp industry in Virginia by regulating facility conditions and requirements for the production of hemp-derived products intended for human consumption.
