Delegate Lee Carter (D-50), the self-avowed Democratic socialist who has represented Manassas City and Bristow in the Virginia General Assembly since 2018, announced his run for governor on New Year’s Day.

Carter, 33, announced in a video posted to social media. A vote for me is a vote for the rest of us,” Carter can be heard saying in the video.

In Virginia’s House District 2, Voters in Prince William and Stafford counties will head to the polls on Tuesday to vote for a candidate to fill the seat held by Jennifer Carroll Foy, who stepped down this month to focus on her run for governor.

Heather Mitchell, who ran against Carrol Foy in 2019, is again vying for the seat for the Republicans. Political newcomer Candi King hopes to win the seat to keep it in the hands of Democrats.

Candi King, of Prince William County, will try to do something her husband twice failed to do — win the 2nd District House seat and go to Richmond to represent Prince William and Stafford counties.

King won a firehouse primary today, besting four other Democrats to win her party’s nomination to run in a January 5 Special Election to replace the outgoing Jennifer Carroll Foy (D), who last week resigned the seat to focus on her 2021 campaign for Virginia Governor.

D.J. Jordan will once again run for a seat in the Virginia House of Delegates.

The Prince William County resident, Republican, and co-author of one of the most-read posts of 2020 here on PLN addressing the defunding of police departments will run for the 31st House District, which includes portions of Prince William and Fauquier counties. The seat is currently held by Delegate Elizabeth Guzman (D), who said she would not seek reelection to the seat to focus on a run for Lt. Governor, a statewide office.

Heather Mitchell will make another run for Special Election for Virginia’s 2nd House District, which could happen as soon as early January.

This will be the second time Mitchell, a Republican, has campaigned for the seat. She lost in November 2019 to incumbent Jennifer Carroll Foy (D), Prince William County, who has held the seat since 2017.

Gov. Ralph Northam released a 90-page report on the effects of completely legalizing marijuana in the state, something he says he aims to do when the General Assembly reconvenes on January 13, 2021.
