Dumfries, Va. — It’s a sure sign of a heated race: candidates running for office in the Potomac Communities are now advertising on TV.
One of the most heated races this fall is the competition for the 36th District seat in the Virginia Senate. Encompassing the area from Mount Vernon in Fairfax County south Stafford, democratic incumbent Toddy Puller is in a contentious race with former state delegate and former Republican Party of Virginia Chairman Jeff Frederick.
Woodbridge, Va. — Woodbridge District Supervisor candidate Chris Royse’s claims he is working with the Department of Defense to bring a major military command headquarters to Woodbridge are in question.
Royse’s democratic opponent and current Woodbridge District Supervisor, Frank Principi, filed a Freedom of Information Act request after Royse this summer said he was in talks with the United States African Command, or AFRICOM, about a possible move from its headquarters in Germany to Woodbridge. At the time Royse, who has worked as a federal contractor and has served in the Army, said AFRICOM’s relocation to the area would make sense because of Woodbridge’s proximity to the Pentagon and because of its easy transit access through Virginia Railway Express.
Woodbridge, Va. — A Virginia Senate incumbent got a boost from a former governor now running for U.S. Senate.
Tim Kaine stopped in Woodbridge Saturday to tout Toddy Puller (D-36, Mount Vernon, Woodbridge, North Stafford) as an effective leader who needs to return to Richmond.
Dumfries, VA – Cleveland Anderson, local small business owner and candidate for the House of Delegates, received the endorsement of Governor Bob McDonnell in his bid for the 52nd District House of Delegates seat.
Announcing his endorsement of Anderson, Governor McDonnell said, “I am pleased to support Cleveland Anderson for Delegate because he is a proven job-creator in Prince William County. As a local businessman, Cleveland knows how to create jobs, meet a payroll and grow the local economy. This week, Del. Richard L. Anderson (R-51st) will conduct two legislative events as a result of the 2011 redistricting of Virginia’s legislative boundaries and in preparation for the 2012 legislative session of the Virginia General Assembly.
On Wednesday, October 19th, Del. Anderson will conduct a live free telephone town hall at 7:30 PM for all residents of the 51st House District. He will meet with voters for one hour by telephone and share ideas for the 2012 legislative session in Richmond. He will also ask for the views of voters and open the line for them to ask questions. To initiate the conference, Anderson’s office will simply call the home telephone numbers of several thousand residents and invite them to participate. By staying on the line, residents will be connected automatically to the conference, which will last for no more than one hour.
According to the Virginia State Board of Elections, those who need to register can print out the forms online and mail them or take them to a local registrar’s office in Prince William or Stafford counties. The elections board does not allow users to submit their forms online.
Several candidates are running for election this year, with seats on county Board of Supervisors, State Senate and House of Delegate seats up for grabs.

At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Prince William County Supervisor Marty Nohe (R-Coles) will discuss issues with his democratic opponent, Anthony Arnold. Dr. Jack Kooyoomjian, Vice President of the Prince William Committee of 100 – the organization sponsoring the event – will moderate the event.
A dinner will follow at 7 p.m., and then candidates vying for state senate offices, Sen. Charles Colgan (D-29, Manassas, Prince William) will debate Republican challenger Tom Gordy.
The National Federation of Independent Business, Virginia’s leading small-business association, has endorsed Jeff Frederick in the 36th Senate District race.
The endorsement was made by NFIB/Virginia SAFE (Save America’s Free Enterprise) Trust, which is comprised exclusively of NFIB members. NFIB has 6,000 small-business members throughout the Commonwealth.
Stafford, Va. — A retired Prince William County cop wants to be the next Stafford County Sheriff.
Charles Feldbush is from Woodbridge and lives in Stafford County, and he says he’ll bring a fresh perspective to the highest law enforcement office in Stafford.
