Meet Murphy, a three-year-old petite Pibble, currently residing at the Spotsylvania County Animal Shelter near Fredericksburg. Murphy arrived with her brother, Bake, who is also seeking his forever home. Known for her friendly disposition, Murphy has tested very well with other dogs and is believed to do well with children aged six and up. She loves to run, play, and get her zoomies out, and walks well on a lead.

The term “Pibble” is an affectionate nickname for Pit Bull-type dogs. It highlights their gentle and loving nature and counters negative stereotypes.

The Spotsylvania County Animal Shelter is at capacity and urgently needs the community’s help. Potential adopters or fosters are encouraged to visit the shelter to meet Murphy or any of her canine friends. The shelter is located at 450 TV Drive, Fredericksburg. Visiting hours are Tuesday through Saturday, between noon and 4 p.m.. Please bring other dogs in your household for a meet and greet to ensure compatibility. A sweet and affectionate feline named Maggie is looking for a new home after her previous living situation became too stressful. This 9-year-old tuxedo cat was surrendered to the Stafford County Animal Shelter after experiencing anxiety due to conflicts with other cats in her home. Now, she’s ready to find a loving family who can give her the attention and care she deserves.

Maggie has already been spayed and is declawed, making her adoption process straightforward with no restrictions. While she is still adjusting to shelter life, her affectionate nature shines through—she’s a cuddler at heart and has done well with young children in the past. Though she hasn’t yet had roommates at the shelter, she may be compatible with older or more relaxed feline companions. However, she would also thrive as the only pet in a calm, loving home.

Maggie is available for adoption on a first-come, first-served basis. Potential adopters should bring a valid photo ID, and if their ID does not reflect their current address, proof of residency may be required. The shelter also offers cat carriers for $5 if needed.

The staff and volunteers at the Prince William County Animal Services Center can’t stop raving about Roxy: “She’s such a sweet girl,” “She’s so gentle,” and “Roxy is such a great dog!” This affectionate pup is looking for a loving family after experiencing a difficult transition.

Roxy was a cherished pet, but when her family lost their job and had to relocate out of state, they made the heartbreaking decision to surrender her. She previously lived with children—ages 4 and 12—and was great with them most of the time. However, since younger kids may struggle with boundaries and gentle touch, she would likely thrive best in a home with children aged 7 or older.

Her former family describes her as house-trained, well-behaved, friendly, and social, with a medium energy level. Roxy is loving, smart, obedient, and observant, though she does have a soft spot for table food!

Since arriving at the shelter, Roxy has impressed everyone with her polite manners and excellent leash-walking skills. She’s a calm, affectionate, and easygoing dog who would make a wonderful companion for the right family.

If you’re looking for a loyal and loving addition to your home, come meet Roxy at the Prince William County Animal Services Center, located at 14807 Bristow Road, Manassas, VA 20112.

For adoption inquiries, call (703) 792-6465 or visit www.pwcva.gov/department/animal-services to learn more about Roxy and other pets available for adoption. Give her the forever home she deserves!

Butterscotch

Three of Old Dominion Humane Society’s longest residents—Crash, Ziggy, and Butterscotch—have patiently waited for their forever homes, watching hundreds of other dogs find loving families. Together, they have spent a total of 1,620 days in the rescue facility or with foster families, and ODHS is determined to find them the perfect match.

Meet the Longest Residents
Crash – This compact, 15-pound pup has been at ODHS since July 5, 2023—waiting 600 days for his perfect home. While shy, he thrives in a quiet, structured environment. He prefers to be the only pet in the home and requires an experienced adopter who understands his need for patience and stability.

Ziggy – With a big personality packed into a 15-pound frame, Ziggy has been at ODHS for 600 days, since July 15, 2023. He’s well-mannered, loves belly rubs, and listens to commands. He thrives in an adult-only home where his adopter can maintain strict boundaries. While he wears a tiny muzzle in public, he’s a volunteer favorite for his affectionate nature and playful energy.

Butterscotch – Arriving as a pregnant stray on January 10, 2024, Butterscotch raised 10 puppies who have all been adopted—now it’s her turn. This two-year-old sweetheart is great with kids, dogs, and cats. She’s active, adventurous, and would make the perfect companion for someone who loves outdoor activities like hiking and running.

Lily’s journey has been one of resilience and healing. Found as a stray, she arrived at Spotsylvania Animal Shelter in Fredericksburg, Virginia, in dire condition, with severe hair loss and skin irritations. After weeks of special veterinary care, Lily is now on the mend—her coat is growing back and making progress each day.

At six years old and weighing 45-50 pounds, Lily is a quiet, gentle dog who spends most of her time resting in her kennel. She’s deaf, requiring slow introductions and a calm, patient environment to feel comfortable. Due to her hearing impairment and past trauma, the shelter recommends a home where Lily can be the only pet and without young children, allowing her to enjoy a peaceful and stress-free life.

If you’re looking for a loving companion who needs a warm, quiet place to call home, consider giving Lily the second chance she deserves.

Lily is available for meet-and-greets at the Spotsylvania Animal Shelter. The shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.

Seven-month-old Zeke has been growing up in his foster home, eagerly awaiting a family to call his own. This energetic pup arrived at the shelter as a stray, and despite his sweet nature, no one came to claim him. But that hasn’t dampened his spirit—Zeke has been having a blast playing and learning alongside his canine foster siblings.

Zeke would thrive in a home with another dog or a family committed to keeping him socialized. Due to his playful, sometimes mouthy nature, he would do best in a household with children aged 8 and up. He’s already house and crate trained, travels well in the car, and is ready to bring joy to his new family.

If you’re looking for a loyal and fun-loving companion, Zeke might be the perfect fit! To learn more or to set up a meet-and-greet, email [email protected].

Zeke is available for adoption through Spotsylvania County Animal Shelter. Visit their website for more details: Spotsylvania County Animal Shelter.
